How to change Latitude E6410 screen resolution?

#1 Post by sheldonisaac »

Hi, my (new-ish) Dell Latitude E6410 laptop seems to have a screen resolution of 1280 by 800?

It makes things rather small on the 14" screen.

How can I get, for example, 1024 x 600?

This is with Super Lupu Puppy Linux.

Thank you.

How to do it depends on what graphics driver you are using.

First try:
menu->Setup->Setup Puppy->Personalize- settings->Screen Resolution

If you can not change to what you want here.

menu->System->System Status and Config->Video info GLX
What is reported here for graphics driver being used?

Oh, sorry, bigpup; I should have said that I did, several times.

I'll do it again, and report.
------------

I was offered 1200x800x16 and 1200x800x24 (which have worked ok)

So I chose More , and then 1024x600x16. OKed it etc etc
without any error message.

But upon re-entering the GUI, the resolution was still 1200x800

Try doing a reboot after you make the resolution change.

1024X768
1280X720
960X600
might be settings to try.

The Intel graphics driver may not be able to provide the 1024X600 resolution.
The drivers do have a limited choice of available resolution settings.
(my Nvidia driver does not offer 1024X600.)

Linux Intel drivers are a little buggy on handling the processor integrated graphics Intel has implemented. Linux is slow to get supported by manufactures and thus Linux drivers are not updated quickly with new abilities.

You can try to make resolution change using Xorgwizard.

menu->setup->xorg video wizard->xorgwizard
select choose.
Select Intel
Set resolution.
Select test.
Select test X now.
After test results - select OK.
Select tweak.
Select tweak_xorg.conf
Select tweak_refresh
Scroll up or down ( some selections you will not see without scrolling)
High-lite desired refresh
Select OK
Select test X now.
If you select one that your hardware will not support, it will stall for a few sec. and fall back to last good setting.
Finish xorgwizard
The things they do not tell you, are usually the clue to solving the problem.

Thank you, bigpup.
Much snipped:

I am going concede defeat at present, and am very grateful for your help.

In Super Lucid Puppy, I've not been able to get anything but 1280x800; which apparently is the "native" resolution?

If I recall correctly, Windows XP and Carolite 1.1 were able to do 1024x768.
Does this mean that those two used different drivers than the SuLu linux?

Hindsight says: what advantage does (fewer but bigger?) pixels offer??

Yes.

1024X768 is a common resolution that most drivers can provide. The Intel driver in Super Lucid, should be able to give you that resolution.

You may need to use Xorgwizard to get the changes to stick.
