If I boot from a write-protected USB device then the pup100 file on the USB device is ignored. Would it be possible to use this file, even though it would be probable that it would be impossible to write back to it at shutdown?

Just out of curiousity, how did you put Puppy on a write-protected USB in the first place? Is it writeable from within Windows only?

It's got a write protect switch on the device.

That really sounds like a better idea than depending on software to protect against inadvertent overwriting.

This is a good idea to make Puppy Linux as a true thin client. In fact, this is the way how I run it today.
