Subject description: Some help with the code

In a surprise move, NVIDIA, the notoriously proprietary company, has contributed code to open-source driver development. Alexandre Courbot posted source code patches for Nouveau, a project which creates open-source drivers for NVIDIA video cards. The patches are for GK20A, a Kepler-based GPU that will be used in Tegra K1 chips. Courbot wrote: "I guess my [NVIDIA] email address might surprise some of you, so let me anticipate some questions you might have. Yes, this work is endorsed by NVIDIA. Several other NVIDIAns, including core GPU experts, have provided significant technical guidance and will continue their involvement." This unusual move has pleased Linux founder Linux Torvalds who raised "a thumb for NVIDIA" on his personal Google Plus page. Hopefully this is one of many more open-source contributions from NVIDIA.

Just read this the first time.

So what it seems to say is that some osnvidia.ko might be expected just like intel.ko .

osnvidia.ko for open_source_nvidia.ko .

Something like that in near future kernel source.

Might be backportable into older kernel source with some fiddling in Makefile and Kconfig files.

nouveau.ko might become deprecated then.

What Xorg developers may think and do is on another piece of paper.

BTW a link to that quote would be nice.

Not to mix a thumb with a finger, or accent differences in the words 'thank-you'

Here is something :

Let me also stress that although very exciting, this effort is still
experimental, so I would like to make sure that nobody makes excessive
expectations based on these few patches. The scope of this work is strictly
limited to Tegra (although given the similarities desktop GPU support will
certainly benefit from it indirectly), and we do not have any plan to work on
user-space support. So do not uninstall that proprietary driver just yet. Wink

With this being clarified, we are looking forward to getting your feedback and
working with you guys to bring and improve Tegra K1 support into Nouveau! Smile

which would say that nvidia people privately or by order would start to support nouveau.ko . So no new kernel driver in view.
