Which puppy to choose for an old laptop Toshiba 4000cdt ?
Pentium II, 4gb hd and 32 mb ram.

I think you are out of luck.

32 MB of ram is the problem.

Puppy is designed for a minimum of 256MB.

It will work on slightly less ram, but not that low.

Maybe a Puppy V2 or V1 would work, somewhat.

There was a guy who got something working on 32MB.

Do not remember where it was in forum. Maybe in the how to section or derivatives section.

You should really try to upgrade that RAM -- you won't be able to do much of anything in 32megs!

I would find puppy one stuggling in that but you will find someone claming puppy flies in such a machine....

Command line stuff really on linux , xvesa at a pinch running one app ata time...it more in the domain of windows 95 or NT4 or 98 with IE removed.
You could add swap but would be running in it constantly.

I think the old laptop is just too old. If you could upgrade the RAM to 256, which isn't likely to be possible on a P2, you'd still be dealing with a very slow processor. P4 laptops are going for $25-50 these days. You would be happier dealing with a P4, I think.
