compiz

#1 Post by 666philb »

i would like to request compiz for precise puppy.

i know that lucid puppy's compiz works in precise but it also breaks some core precise things by overwriting various libs.
compiz from the PPM works but the window decorator fails.. the same thing happens when compiling it from scratch.

so if anyone either knows how to get the window decorator working in precise.... or can compile a precise version, i would be very grateful

cheers :)

Hi...

I certainly would add my vote but how do I to get it to work in the first place? I'm not seeing any configuration panel that would allow me to enable features. :?:

Also, when I type "compiz" in a terminal, I get...
# compiz
compiz (core) - Error: Another window manager is already running on screen: 0

hi ardvark '

thanks for the interest! compiz needs a compositing window manager to work such as xfce http://www.wuala.com/666philb/Documents ... _sfs4.sfs/

you may also need to run

Code: Select all

compiz --replace
in a terminal

Not based on Precise....but if you are happy to go with Slacko....& PcManFM & LxPanel.....

try CompizPup
ImageLxPup = Puppy + LXDE
Main version used daily: LxPupSc; Assembler of UPups, ScPup & ScPup64, LxPup, LxPupSc & LxPupSc64

hi peebee,

i've already tried compizpup and like it a lot. ... but i must admit that i'm a precise / raring type of guy :)

so the request is specifically for precise puppy, and it's something i've been having goes at getting working (unsuccessfully) since the 5.4 betas.

i'm hoping someone will solve the lack of windows decoration

cheers

ok so here's a .pet to test for precise puppy... be warned though that this is experimental and you are advised to backup your savefile first.

it includes '01mickos' compiz helper from slacko which will run automatically when it's installed ..... just ignore any fails and carry on installing.
you will need to reboot after installation for the package to work.
it also contains some menu settings from 'peebees' lxpup for the lxpanel .. although this still isn't working properly in the package, maybe i missed something.

there were problems with the compiz package from the PPM, namely flickering when rotating the cube. so after a search online i found a ppa with packages that fixed this .... however some animations aren't working then. particularly the shade/minimise/maximise animations.

i may need to use the packages from natty .... or compile it myself  for a fully functional one

to start compiz (after rebooting) use the wmswitcher in menu>>desktop

anyway there's a download here to test https://copy.com/WmJJocRiLJkHDVw 18mb
