#1 Post by dejan555 »

UPDATE: See this post for further delta update

Announcing Dpup 487 "Midnight" another update of dpup 48x series
This update brings new glibc (2.19) and backend cli tools/libraries, while keeping the same old kernel (2.6.30.5) and Xorg
Everything is compiled on dpup and gcc/toolchain for devx is also updated
Seamonkey updated to 2.25 with html5 videos support, also compiled for dpup so it should run even more smooth.
jwm-910 snapshot with silent menu reload
Complete list of upgraded packages in both main sfs and devx is here

Individual packages compiled for dpup included in iso and devx are here: --link removed--

For DRI/opengl install this deb: libgl1-mesa-dri

Packages from previous dpups: dpup486 | dpup485 | dpup484
Relevant threads: dpup486 | dpup485 | dpup484

Known bugs and issues:
1) Drec (desktop recorder) will not work currently because ffmpeg is updated and some of old options are deprecated so I have to take a look at drec script
2) I removed lenny repos package lists from ppm, if you click on configure/update in ppm it will download package lists from wheezy repos and they should install ok but I haven't really tested compatibility
3) If you get mtPaint crashes install this newer pet mtPaint-3.44.59-i486-dpup487.pet

Hi, dejan.

Good work! Downloading now from tubeguy's repo.
Is this one utf8 compatible (rather than with iso-8859-1)?

BFN.

bark_bark_bark, first dpup was originally built from woof using debian lenny packages as base but since then it's updated and a lot of packages in this build are compiled for it.

musher0, afaik utf-8 was supported in all builds?
Or are you talking about some defaults? I know montenegrin characters worked in apps that supported them fine.
How do I check this?

tubeguy, thanks for mirrors!

Thank you, Dejan.
Downloading now.
Just an idea for later versions: Newer kernel above 3.x (maybe even above 2.8 ) and squashfs-tools-v.4 will give you the option to use xz compression. For the price of little more CPU usage Dpup can be compressed 25-30% smaller.
Since I use very old hardware I can say kernels above 3 did not loose old hardware support so nothing is lost upgrading the kernel to a level that supports xz decompress option. And the CPU usage is not too much more with xz compression.

Manual frugal install to flash drive, pc is a compaq Presario S6700NX
desktop pc.
Computer:
Processor2x Intel(R) Pentium(R) 4 CPU 2.80GHz
Memory1554MB (92MB used)
Operating SystemPuppy Linux 4.87
User Nameroot (root)Date/TimeMon Apr 21 07:45:25 2014
Display:
Resolution1920x1080 pixels

JWM wouldn't change the number of workspaces, it gives an error saying
that the new config file is corrupt and uses the old one.
Mtpaint crashes if you try the scale canvas option.
PPM took hours to update to the wheezy repos and then wouldn't
download packages, it saw them and started to download but failed.

That's it so far, runs fast on this pc.

Thanks Billtoo,
Did you try to change workspaces number from jwm config tool?
I might need to update it to newer one.

Yes, PPM takes ages to convert lists I might make a pet for package databases, haven't bothered to test though like I said.
I've been making alternative debget script but it's really basic at the moment and cli-only

I'll try to replicate mtpaint crash via canvas scale.
I use smaller screen resolutions though.

I used the jwm configure in the desktop menu.

Hello, people.

Same here. Except don't blame dejan, that problem either belongs to jwm or to the
jwm config utility. That behavior in the jwm config has been there forever, which is
one of the reasons why I do not like jwm.

The solution for now is simply to edit /root/.jwm/jwmrc-personal manually,
just below the line

Code: Select all

<!-- Number of virtual desktops -->
from

Code: Select all

<Desktops width="2" height="2"/>
to

Code: Select all

<Desktops width="3" height="1"/>
for example, and you'll find your profit.

Billtoo, can you give me more info on scaling problem, what type of image did you scale (png, jpg) or was it from new image session without defined format, scaling from which resolution to which, etc... I tried even high res png scans and it didn't crash, I remember someone telling me about similar or same problem with mtpaint before but I could never make it crash... can someone replicate this bug?
My screen goes only to 1280x1024 resolution but I've opened large scans 4204x5829 x 500dpi and scaled them with or without aspect ratio checked and to different sizes...
Can it be problem with memory? At first it didn't let me scale at all, giving message about not allocating enough memory, this is only 32MB in preferences by default, try increasing that and see if it crashes again.

EDIT: Even better, if it was existing image send it to me or attach and I'll try with default mtpaint settings

Scale canvas works if Nearest Neighbour is selected, it crashes if
Blackman-Harris is selected.
I think Blackman-Harris is the default unless I clicked it by accident.

It's working now :)
Thanks

Great, hey do you still have the converted ppm package databases? Can you tar them up and upload somewhere?

Code: Select all

tar cjf /root/.packages/Packages-debian-* /root/ppm-wheezy.tar.bz2

On which mtPaint version does this happen? Even the remotest possibility of such a thing should have been eliminated since 3.44.41 - so I'm *very* interested whether I missed some other bug in there.

I just tested and it happened again.

It's 3.44.13, I guess we don't have latest & greatest, I'll get the sources to compile asap.
It doesn't happen on my install though, can it be graphics-card related?

EDIT: wjaguar, what's the correct code to clone latest development snapshot from git?
EDIT: I'm cloning with

Code: Select all

git clone https://github.com/wjaguar/mtPaint.git
