Google a security friend - to help citizens

#1 Post by gcmartin »

How many of you have had Google provide assistance in security for you? They will even go so far as to thwart as well as report to authorities the sources of breach attempts when asked.

Here an example of them taking action on your behalf

Code: Select all

Warning: Google prevented a suspicious attempt to ...
Apr 6 Application/device sign-in attempt (prevented) United States

Sometimes its good to have people with the power to track down bad guys/activities who can act to alert the authorities when need. ... Even when they jump around from site to site via proxy or thru zombies. I didn't know they could do so. I gave them the go-ahead to call in the authorities.

Agreed. Google seems to at least show face and try to protect data.

I had looked into this years ago. NOW THEY APPEAR TO BE SERIOUS ABOUT GOING FORWARD WITH THIS!!! This is too good to be true. <= Click

This has the makings of creating a REVOLUTION among the people in the world should the corporations mentioned go forward with this. They are planning/threatening (depending on one's views) to make it known who is requesting information on you! This has tremendous power.

Further, extend this type of personal alerting to those corporations, banks, and others who privately request information from the Credit Reporting Services without your knowledge.

Beware, we could be heading toward an open society where YOU are alerted whenever anyone delves into your personal information.

Cross your fingers!!!

But how long will this reporting to users last?
As stated in the linked article, the Justice Department can issue a gag order on subpoenas to the services reporting them.
And if the services fail to comply, they can be held in contempt.
So services such as Twitter, Yahoo, and Google may say they are reporting the requests for information back to the users. But how long will that last with the Justice Department able to place a gag order on them with the possibility of them being restricted from stating that a gag order was placed on them.

The interesting thing about a multinational corporation in the modern world is that they are under the laws where they are physically located and not where the user is located. Thus google-finland can post a report about actions of the justice department of the US and be in the clear so long as google-usa obeys the gag order.

If Google really cared about people, they would destroy Google Glass.

What do you think is wrong with Google Glass?
I am just curious as it is a heads up display built to be used with glasses.
They went from making one that is a pair of glasses with display to an add on that can be attached to an existing pair of glasses.

It's more of the people using it we should be afraid of. There could be people recording us and not even know it. The NSA probably has the video recording on all the time.
