Slacko 5.7 - EeePC 901 - WiFi rt2860pci - WPA2

#1 Post by dll »

I'm interested in using Slacko Puppy Linux 5.7 (frugal) on EeePC 901 and to connect to WPA2 encrypted WiFi, but I'm not getting to connect.

The wireless device using the EeePC is rt2860pci.

With Puppy Linux 5.2.8 (frugal) on the EeePC 901 I can connect to WPA2 encrypted WiFi.

The difference I find is that Lucid Puppy Linux 5.2.8 kernel using linux 2.6.33, however, Slacko 5.7 uses the Linux kernel 3.4.82.

Please, can someone help me?

-----

Give details.
You do what step?
You see what?
Any error messages?
but I'm not getting to connect.
This does not tell us what you are doing to connect or what network connection program you are using.
The things they do not tell you, are usually the clue to solving the problem.
When I was a kid I wanted to be older.... This is not what I expected

Back before I sold my eeepc with Salck0 5.7 installed.

It connected just fine via wpa-psk on my home wireless network just fine using Barrys simple Network Manager.

My wireless chip on my eeepc was

Code: Select all

Network: Card-1 Realtek RTL8187SE Wireless LAN Controller at port d800 BusID: 01:00.0
though. Newer kernel in Slack0 5.7 should be just fine. Did you md5sum
the Slack0 iSO before installing in case that is the glitch.

I am finding now a days in the 'nix world, wifi support is getting crappier and crappier over time. I just hope it doesn't get as bad as it was in '06-09

The lack of firmware being requested is killing you.

Why I don't know.
