i use palemoon and unfortunately firefox have now removed all legacy addons from their site, and so i've just been keeping my old addon .xpi files to use across installs. but i found this https://github.com/JustOff/ca-archive

it's an addon you install to give access to all the legacy firefox addons that have been removed.

It came up recently in Off-Topic. The linux download will run from its own directory - I use the actual binary, the run-mozilla script did not work. It puts a hidden '.mozilla' type directory called '.moonchild.productions' in root, so move it and symlink it if your savefile starts looking stuffed.
Tested on Slacko 5.7

Yepper - I'm diggin' this browser! Everything my fav Firefox is, with less bloat. Installed & working perfectly on Precise 5.7.1 Retro... loads noticeably faster, uses less RAM, scrolls pages smoother (and with less CPU use), installed all of my favorite add-ons and imported my bookmarks without a hitch. Overall just seems smoother/faster. This is a great direction to go with the otherwise excellent-but-becoming-too-bloated Firefox.

Been super unhappy with the latest Firefox for a bunch of reasons, and yet, what to use as an alternative? Opera hasn't kept up as already mentioned, and Chromium... wow, the stuff out lately about Google on the privacy issues is almost as frightening as what the DHS has been up to.

Didn't look like the pet was 64bit, so I went to the site and got the tar. The tar installer worked flawlessly in Lighthouse64 514b. I'm assuming that means it will also work well in Fatdog. The version I downloaded was 24.5.0 x64. A bunch of my plugins broke after FF updated from v.28 to v.29, but they all work fine here in Pale Moon.

Looks good, guys. Just thought I'd let you all know on the tar and x64.

i've updated the pet to the latest and fixed a small problem with the previous package (i had it starting from a script in /usr/bin and this caused problems with palemoon not opening external links sent to it ...say from your email. so it's now just symlinked to /usr/bin and works perfectly)

I've noticed another significant positive Pale Moon characteristic, in that it includes an efficient built-in smooth scrolling function (Preferences>Advanced>Scrolling).

Scrolling thru a webpage in Firefox eats a lot of CPU (graphic) resources and at times causes "stuttering" or hanging of the page's movement, on these older computers I'm running - especially when tabs are loading in the background. And I find Firefox's scrolling increments to be a bit coarse and abrupt to begin with - I often add a smooth-scrolling addon to help, but it ends up consuming even more CPU resources. This Pale Moon browser seems to consume only a fraction of the CPU that Firefox (even without the smooth-scroll addon installed) does. Like approx 1/3rd! Excellent, as my fan is not whining into action nearly as often while scrolling. And Pale Moon's smooth scroll function appears to work very well. Nice!

Very nice browser. Thanks for the recommendation. And I was able to drop my old Firefox 16 profile into Pale Moon, no problem.

One other interesting feature I haven't seen mentioned is Pale Moon's "status bar options." The status bar information can be configured to appear in the status bar, or the little pop-up at the bottom of the window, or in the address bar (to the right of the current address). As I recall, that last status-in-address-bar option was a previous Firefox feature that was taken away. I like it a lot.

I got your pet file but it wouldn't work; it said something about glibcxx or something 3.14 and a bunch of other stuff, so I uninstalled it. My current puppy linux is Carolina 1.2, which i think is based on wary/racy. I tried palemoon in both slacko and precise 5.7 and it worked on both; why won't it work on this one?

I reported problem with this browser, Version: 24.5.0 (x86), on the TahrPUP thread, yesterday. It ships as the OOTB browser on TahrPUP. FF is much more mature offering stable behavior.

The 24.6.2 binary's a GO aboard 528. Simply extract'n run. NICE!

Steps:

Dwnld & extract >> Anywhere your heart desires.
Open two ROX windows >> One with your dwnld, one @ /usr/bin.
Uh, yeah.. You could dump it in ~/my-applications/bin just as well.
Drag one of the "palemoon/palemoon.bin" files to /usr/bin and choose link relative.

Since I hotkey gExec to fire, you're on your own with Smile

menu entries.
