Kernel Init - Not Syncing

#161 Post by Deacon »

Hello,

I've found an issue, which is kind of odd.

On my netbook I've found that there is a Kernel Panic that occurs during the boot sequence. I've seen this on other pups before, usually on a frugal that's 2FS file's has gotten heavy, but this is a full on a 300GB HD with 1GB of onboard RAM (it's an Atom-based HP Mini).

Usually waiting for the whole panic and restarting causes the machine to start fine.
Any idea why?

Just wanted to say thanks for this release. It was the only OS that would run on this old abused machine stably. I am happy that I found this as I have adopted it as my pet.
Took some training, but she's a beaut in my eyes. :D
Sorry; couldn't figure out how you guys upload file to home host....

openssl on slacko 5.6

#164 Post by greengeek »

Does anyone have any tips for the best way to install the latest openssl on slacko 5.6?

I am showing:
# openssl version
OpenSSL 1.0.1e 11 Feb 2013
#

which I understand is one of the heartbleed affected versions.

You'll find it in Menu -> Setup -> Updates Manager.

Thanks! I've selected it from there, then saved a copy of it from /tmp for later offline installation. I may see if I can make a .pet of it. cheers

Hmmm, just looking at the packages it looks like quite a bit going on under the hood - not an easy drag 'n 'drop upgrade of a few libs. Lots of certificates to be removed, renamed and replaced. If you are trying to do a manual install offline is it as simple as clicking the /install/doinst.sh?

(I was hoping to insert this upgrade into a slacko-based pup I am manually remastering)

Should I just leave this to the devs and see if someone makes a .pet?

A list of the files included in the slack packages can be found 2/3 of the way down the page here:
http://pkgs.org/slackware-14.0/slackwar ... 0.txz.html
(keep clicking 'show more')
Seems like a huge list of files.

Hi, does anyone have a wget pet addressing the recent vulnerabilities please? My installed version is 1.14 and that seems to be all that is available in the slacko14 and update repositories. Looking for 1.16 if available.

Thanks rg66. Turns out I got the same problem with your pet as I did with the other v 1.16 pets i had tried - wget still failed.
If anyone else with Slacko 5.6 has wget failure after installing updates please have a look at 8Geee's fix (and the posts around it) here

It seems to be a problem with an incorrectly named (or missing) lib symlink.
