tahrpup 582 beta
updated
abiword 3.0.0
deadbeef 0.6.1
geany 1.24.1
sylpheed 3.4.2
palemoon 24.6.2
pfind latest
sfsload 2.0.8
JWM vgit-933
power applet tray
network tray
retrovol
freemaplet tray
added
ardis icon set (vicmz)
this is a more complete build of tahrpup and the first 'pure woof' build (the older ones were remastered afterwards to tweak them)
it fixes lots of missing libs & symlinks and can now be considered beta
i was going to add quickpet to this build but i'm having some problems with dropbox at the moment so will have to add it later.
i'm sticking with the old build system and same kernel for the time being whilst the bugs are worked out in the slacko thread, but expect a build using the newer system in the future.

@666philb
Regarding the "new" build system option, it's almost ready. Just working out some details with the init and rc.sysinit. I already built you a kernel (3.12.22 up at ibiblio) and the 3builddistro-Z script will offer to download it. I may update that soon though for the lighter firmware and a couple of inclusions in the DOTconfig. (eg, apple keyboards don't work)I. f you get time you should do a test build soon to familiarise yourself. No need to rebuild packages, just use a different version number. It *should* go well. Let me know if it doesn't!
I'll test out your 5.8.2 build soon.

[SOLVED] AR9285 wlan + AR3011 bluetooth combo card issues |
|
I installed bluez with dependencies.
EDIT: the firmware in /lib/firmware is missing for this common chip. download it from https://raw.githubusercontent.com/cernekee/linux-firmware/master/ath3k-1.fw
and place ath3k-1.fw in that directory. Also, add btusb to the BootManager & REBOOT.
I also loaded the devx and header sfs, and there was a REALLY long depmod (like a half a minute), so if the above doesn't work, try that also.
In my case, I finally got, after much time of frustration, and searching, it paid off:
Code: | sh-4.1# hcitool scan
Scanning ...
8C:7C:92:30:xx:yy Brian's iPad
00:0D:4B:94:xx:yy Roku Player |
I use frisbee to connect to my wifi, and now I see "pan0" as one of my network interfaces. I have not yet paired my iphone and tried to connect this, but since it is there, I assume it will. Step in the right direction anyway.
END EDIT
Oddly, I can get a Cirago BT USB device to work, but not the internal card on my Asus X101ch that uses the AR9285 wlan chip with ath9k (which does not load on boot and I had to add it w the boot manager).
If I google "bug AR9285 bluetooth combo card linux," I get a host of bugs involving combo cards and the bluetooth is kind of recognized but not useable. Booting Tahrpup loads ath3k, bnep, bluetooth, and I have added btusb to the boot manager because even though the BT module resides on the pci wlan card, the signals are USB. The device does show up here and there. It shows up with rfkill
Code: | sh-4.1# rfkill list
0: asus-wlan: wlan
Soft blocked: no
Hard blocked: no
1: asus-bluetooth: bluetooth
Soft blocked: no
Hard blocked: no
2: phy0: wlan
Soft blocked: no
Hard blocked: no |
It shows up under lsusb
Code: | sh-4.1# lsusb

Bus 001 Device 002: ID 058f:6366 Alcor Micro Corp. Multi Flash Reader

Various commands via bluetooth
Code: | sh-4.1# hcitool dev
Devices:
sh-4.1# hcitool scan
Device is not available: No such device
sh-4.1# hciconfig asus-bluetooth up
Can't get device info: No such device |
Just in case the AR3011 shows up as hci0 (the cirago shows up under this name when plugged in, and it works)
Code: | sh-4.1# hciconfig hci0 up
Can't get device info: No such device |
All of these symptoms seem to follow the pattern for most of the bugs in significantly older kernels (like 3.1) so I am surprised to see it here with 3,12. Both BT and wifi work in everything else (Ubuntu 12.04 - 14.04 including derivatives), knoppix, and of Win 7.

ROX-Filer right click (/root/.config/rox.sorceforge.net/OpenWith) in TahrPup-5.8.2 is somewhat broken.
FYI: There is rox_filer-MIME-additional-20131225.pet used in 571JP.

Why not add desksetup to save/retrieve desktop icons?
I copied the one from latest slacko, seems to work.

Tahr Puppy 5.8.2 beta |
|
I get a warning when the pupsave file is being updated:
cp: cannot create regular file '/initrd/pup_ro1/root/spot/.cache/mozilla/firefox/6x4tdxgd.default/Cache/1/26/EE3D9d01': No such file or directory
cp: cannot create regular file '/initrd/pup_ro1/root/spot/.cache/mozilla/firefox/6x4tdxgd.default/Cache/0/DA/8121Bd01': No such file or directory
I guess it's because firefox is running as user spot?
It doesn't seem to cause problems.

Did it happen only once?
Sometimes, very rarely, it just happens (one of AUFS mysteries), but usually it's enough to save session once more and the error won't pop up again.
Actually I've been thinking to remove that warning completely (to avoid this kind of false alarms), but on the other hand there might be real errors that need attention, so I believe users should be notified of that.
Greetings!

Yes, only once.
Edit: oops, it just came up again, an hour or so after the first one.

@666philb
Thanks for all the hard work.
Testing TahrPup 5.8.2
Code: | # modinfo ndiswrapper
modinfo: ERROR: Module ndiswrapper not found.
# |
Perhaps this needs compiling if you are sticking with this kernel?
Otherwise so far so good. nVidia GeForce FX5200 working OK with nouveau driver.
Code: | # export vblank_mode=0
# glxgears |
gives an FPS of around 450
Ah, EDIT, just to add, Psync 2.10 by npierce is here:-

6. ROX-Filer right click is somewhat broken. |
thanks shinobar
1. yes i had to do a hack in /root/.packages to stop libudev being installed when using the PPM as it completely breaks puppy ... probably should just add it to woof-installed-packages?
2. that's a bit beyond me .. is this to be fixed in woof?
3. i will add that package and the other suggested packages in the next build
4. pplog needs /usr/share/perl/5.18/base.pm and /usr/share/perl/5.18/overloading.pm from the devx ... i'll put them in the main build.
5. forgot about that will fix in next build .
yes the i messed the right clicks, will be more careful next time
