CD/DVD Wizard does not find my USB CD burner

#1 Post by gristmill »

The CD/DVD Wizard only shows my internal CD drive (which is not a burner).
USB View under Control Panel does show my HP CD Writer.
Does anyone know how to get my HP CD Writer to show up in the wizard? It does not appear in Gcombust, XCDroast or TkDVD. (Using Puppy 2.11)

same problem here with the exception that cdroast crashes xwin, and add to that wishcd is non-functional.

i had to get tricky to burn some driver and related PDF files to a cd myself. i ended up emptying a iso file with the iso remaster app and then putting the driver and PDF files in the iso then renaming the iso so i could use burncd2iso.

i know it's only a workaround, but it's better than not being able to burn cds.
so much to learn, so late a start.

We get lots of complaints about non-functional usb CD drive.
One of these days I'll buy one so I can test it and get it working -- the problem is, I haven't done so as it is a waste of money purely from my own usage point of view, as I don't need one.

OK. Thanks Barry. Now I know it's not just that I am overlooking something.

thanks barry.
i wonder if any of the other contributers might already have a usb burner they can do the testing on, thereby saving time and your money.

I've got a USB CD burner. I'll see if I can get around to doing some tests. 8)

Ok, here is my first test.

I booted 2.12beta2 and connected a Samsung USB CD/DVD burner to my Dell laptop.

Opened 'Puppy CD/DVD drive wizard' and the USB drive was listed:

Changed the 'default DVD reader' and 'default burner drive' to /dev/scd0.

Used TkDVD to blank a CD-RW disc, then Burniso2cd to burn an iso to the disc. No problem.

The only problem I had was with Gcombust: it listed the driver as follows:

This resulted in an error when I tried to blank a CD-RW disc.

gristmill, laptopnewbee - can you get your USB drive to work with any of the programs using 2.12beta2 ?

My USB CD writer will not work with any of the programs in 2.11.
My HP printer is USB and it works. When I select USB View under control panel and click on configure it says location of usbdevfs file is
/proc/bus/usb/devices for both the printer and cd writer.

Maybe I should download 2.12 beta and try that?
