How to install LXDE?

#1 Post by sredmon »

How do you install LXDE on Puppy Linux? I have tried on both 528-004 Lucid and Precise Puppy Beta7. In both cases I have downloaded and installed all LXDE files, but cannot determine how to make it run.

:D Hello,
Since you didnt say what you did try, I`ll start at the top:
From the desktop:
"control-alt-backspace"
will drop you out of xwindows to a terminal.
type
xwin lxde
or
type
startx lxde
Close the Windows, and open your eyes, to a whole new world

Doesn't lxde sometimes have a special `startlxde` script or something?
Do you know a good gtkdialog program? Please post a link here

In /root/.xinitrc the last line you have to change to exec startlxde
In /etc/windowmanager you have to replace the existing windowmanager (f.e. jwm) with openbox.

BTW why don't You try jejy69's lxde precise pup? Very beautiful and fast.

Thank you. Startlxde works.

Unfortunately, lxde precise puppy requires pae, so I cannot load it.

LxPup-by-SFS can be installed on various puppies (Slacko, Precise, Upup-Raring for instance) in both pae and non-pae flavours.....
