amazon prime and HAL

#321 Post by BHINTZ »

Could someone give me a clue on how to install HAL in tahr. I was able to do this in Lubuntu and could watch amazon prime, but would like to do it with puppy.

Thanks, bob

Thanks for response.

It certainly looked like the right stuff, but I couldn't connect.

I have updated to rc1 and still couldn't connect. I even tried it in palemoon, as I usually use firefox.

Even other suggestions would be welcome. When I tried to run "hald" I did not get any report concerning its activity, so I am not certain that it did anything. Could that be the problem.

Booted puppy_tahr_5.8.3.rc1.sfs with the optional kernel 3.9.94_non_PAE on a frugal install.

Computer Dell Inspiron 6000 laptop.

Had to rename the puppy_tahr_5.8.3.rc1.sfs to puppy_tahr_5.8.3.sfs to boot.

Everything looks good, time to play.

Thanks 666philb!

I plugged in an Android phone via USB, and it brought up the install partition for the MTP stuff which shows up in Puppy as an optical icon on the desktop.

Then all the drive icons disappeared and now they won't stay up.

I can restart X and they pop up as usual, then they disappear and don't come back until X is restarted.

Any ideas?
hi sketchman,

is the bug repeatable? can you try booting live and plugging your phone in to see if it happens again.
I will check and report back.
Tried it just now. Not only does the phone make it do it, but it seems that any optical drive via usb connection does it. I just did it with a CD-ROM connected vie usb. Same deal. As soon as the CD is unmounted and the icon disappears so do all the others, and they never come back for good. Just flash up for a few seconds and go away again.

I deleted /root/.adobe and restarted browser FF and signed in. It updated adobe and almost started, but then I got the sorry message and DRM problem.

otherwise, rc1 is outstanding

Updated 5.8.3 without any major issues.
Nice build!
The only thing was that quickpet after an update offers and installs tahr fixes 1.5. Should it be so? Aren't all fixes included in the ISO or this is because of the update as oppose to fresh install?

BTW is that a fresh woof build or a "manual" remaster of 5.8.3. If the former, where is the code?

Annoying visual issue.

#331 Post by gyro »

Fresh frugal install of tahr 5.8.3.rc1.
Used the wallpaper changer to select a dark background.
Text under desktop icons becomes very difficult to read.
How can I change the colour of this text to plain white?

Right-click on an icon and go ROX-filer-->options-->Pinboard

hi mavrothal,

i didn't think of that... when upgrading with a savefile the old quickpet overwrites the new .. should be fixed now if you try it.

this is a fresh woof build although a bit hacky, the main reason being that it uses packages from barrys quirky6 repository where as tahrpups packages are in the puppy repository. I need to sort out what it uses from quirky6 and upload to the tahr repo. This maybe why tahr packages aren't showing in the ppm.
i've attached 'woof-distro' but to build tahrpup you would need to manually download packages from here
http://ftp.nluug.nl/ibiblio/distributio ... ages-tahr/ to the 'local-repositories' in woof.

on side note ... can you look at sketchmans post above about disappearing drive icons http://murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic. ... 315#797799

any idea?

thanks
phil

Is OK now.
666philb wrote:this is a fresh woof build although a bit hacky,
Maybe is time to clean it up and commit it to woof-CE

I can not reproduce the issue so is hard to figure out .
/usr/local/bin/drive_all is a place to start looking for possible hints.

Is it also true in slacko 6 beta? What about older puppies (precise, slacko 5.7).
If only in newer maybe related to the changes introduced to accommodate save folder. If in Tahr but not slacko-6 maybe is some quircky package that does it.
But again without being able to reproduce it...
BTW which phone is it? (model/OS version) Any special PC communication app on the phone?

It was easy to install on IBM desktop with an intel graphics chip.

However some apps are out of date:

For instance,

pschedule has just been updated by Zigbert

baconrecorder has been much improved

Copy fast is a useful utility that I like to use.
I was thinking of upgrading it so that
copied to the Network Share folder???

Don't remember seeing one, but, is there some documentation which shows developers a path to move distros from WOOF to WOOFCE? This may be helpful to some who understand the old process.

Curious

Maybe because there is nothing to see!
Woof and woof-CE have very little difference from the developer point of view.

In any case, other threads (or even a new one) might be more appropriate than a pupplet thread...

PUI or puppyinstaller

The Puppy Universal Installer in Tahrpup-5.8.3.rc1 does not work.
Need next fix against /usr/sbin/puppyinstaller:
