Will have more changes other than the kernel/bootloader(/video diver)?

No, not really. There are apps that would be nice to have in the repo but I do not see the need for any core additions.

samba4 is in the repo. samba-tng is part of basesfs, I think. I think pure-ftpd is also in the repo. Do you need anything else?

Wish I knew. Saw someone did it last year for the mele 1000 when everyone was turning it into servers. Does Hostpad sound right it was part of the setting for the chipset inside mele.
Samba would work thanks. still would like povray but not a big deal a on screen keyboard would be nice had one compiled but unable to get work. Something else was grabing the hooks or not letting it go.
My one year self ban on cool new toys end soon, what is out there that is capable ( VGA etc Sata wifi etc like mele is but with upsized speed and ram higher. ) or a nice hackable tablet?

Not quite understanding the techtalk here and there but might be of interest: kind of pc running linux android simultaneously or something like that,

http://www.volkspc.org/unified-distribution/

"Volks-pc" means "People's pc"

@Ted dog, I'll look at it.

@Nancy - yes, that's interesting. Unfortunately they don't share a lot at the moment. There are always two possibilities to do this:
a) run android kernel and the run linux userland on top of android.
b) run standard linux kernel and have linux userland running side-by-side with android (or may be running android on top).

Most solutions on the web do a). If volkspc does b), that would be interesting. In theory it's not too difficult, most of android stuff are Java anyway ... so one only needs to get the underlying Java VM running and the rest should fall in place (again, in theory). It does require you to understand android's internal workings, though

@JamesB
If I understood well, the dev on the topic of cnx-software.com offered in "replies" a testversion or something of the like ?

Not really. I think someone there pointed out some tarballs (=package) with binaries (=programs, libraries) as well as a kernel module that is tied specifically to the kernel and Android version that runs on MK808.

That's it. Not even an image that we can put into SD card (or flash into the device) so we can get it running. And it is specifically tied to MK808. That tarball specifically contains an implementation of the MicroXwin idea (how to accelerate Linux graphics using Android stack) - not the whole side-by-side Android/Linux idea.

The idea does have its merits, though.

Jamesbond,

I have received my odroid u3, and have been trying to learn how to use it and also how to use FatdogArm, and I have some observations/questions.

I had the same failure that IhaveU3 and DC had in trying to get eth0 up and running using the tools in the Control Panel/Network Setup. I also had to use “dhcpcd -t 30 -h fatdog -d eth0“ in the terminal to get eth0 to activate.

I purchased the wifi dongle that Hardkernel supplies, and wlan0 too would not activate! It turns out that the dongle hardware (RTL8188CUS) needs the rtl8192cu driver, and this driver did not seem to be present in the copy of FatdogArm that I downloaded. Fortunately I got a copy of Ubuntu 14.04 for the odroid U3, and it had the driver so I tried a copy from Ubuntu in FDArm, did a depmod, and it is working great. It would be helpful to include that module in the FDArm download.

Speaking of modules. When I do “lsmod

What you need to do is just to specify "auto" in "configure ip address", and that's it - you can either "activate now" or reboot. That being said, it worked with wireless, but I haven't tested with eth0 myself because I don't have cables. I'll look into it again.

I didn't have HandKernel dongle so I had no idea what chipset it has and what driver it needs. I can't remember what was kernel configuration I uploaded for beta1, whether it comes with rtl8192cu. The one I have running right now has rtl8192cu driver built-in. That being said, HardKernel has updates for the kernel for rtl8188cus, so perhaps the best way is for me to compile a new kernel package for U2/U3.

jamesbond,

Thank you for all that info. Now a couple of more questions/observations.

What are the username and password to get into CUPS? I have tried about 10 of the usual combinations and none of them work!

I am not having much luck setting the System Timezone. About the closest I can get to my actual time zone is 4 or 5 hours away.

The Fatdog64 user's ability to drag a control panel icon out onto the desktop to use as a shortcut is nice. Might you be able to implement this capacity in FatdogARM?

I am getting the warning
Personal Storage getting full, strongly recommend you resize it or delete files.
I have deleted a whole bunch of files, but am still getting the message on reboot. The Control Panel/Savefile Tool will not let me resize the Savefile, if I booted with the Savefile. Where do I put the “savefile=none

Hi jamesbond,

I am still trying to increase the size of my Savefile.

Clicking on the mmcblk0p1 icon, I have found the uEnv.txt file, and have changed

Code: Select all

#savefile=
to

Code: Select all

savefile=none
and saved the file.

After rebooting, all of my savefile material is still quite accessible, and going to Control Panel =>System => Fatdog64 Savefile Tool, I am still getting the message
Fatdog64 Savefile Tool can only be used when you run without using a savefile. Reboot your system and specify savefile=none as your boot option
.

Have I not followed the correct procedure to changed the savefile size? Is a savefolder a better option? If so, how do you implement it without losing any material in the savefile?

Thank you.

The usual puppy password. But let me try that.

As in, the timezone not available? Or the clock is always wrong?

This will not happen for a while. The panel that is (correctly) capable of performing drag-and-drop of menu items is razor-panel, and razor-panel depends on Qt4, which I haven't built for ARM yet.

I am looking forward to that.

Does FatdogArm come with XBMC?

It will probably comes with an update as well because the kernel change brings other changes too ...

No. I suppose there are already many other XBMC / media-player oriented distributions, so I don't see FatdogArm fulfilling a need here. But let me know if you think otherwise.
