What is your favourite Puppy distro?

As far as an "EEE-xperience" is concerned slacko-5.5XL is a modernized version of the EEE-OS w/o the Xandros. Office, Flash Java, all the good bulky things

/ is about 2.2Gb

For lean and net-worthy slack57-ff23 with unnecessary video drivers removed / is about 450Mb. No Office, no flash, no Java, youtube on HTML5.

Both run OK on a 700 series eee and much better on the Atom-based eee's.

Good choice. Been using my customized version now for a long time. Have older WINE and older Java built in. Base SFS is 100MB. Try and beat that.

Whenever I experience roadblocks with a distro, I always seem to revert back to the old 3 Headed Dog or 5.28. Puppy has come a long way since then but there are still many things to like about this distro. I don't use it that often, anymore but it's still ranks up there as an ongoing favorite.

I have to agree with Eyes-Only, puppy 4.2.1 was simply the best. I've been using puppy since 2009 and started with 4.1.2 which I liked alot. Then moved to 4.2.1 the day it was released. I used 4.2.1 up until a couple days ago because I couldn't get my new sound card to work.

Now i'm using precise 5.7.1 and although it isn't as pretty as 4.2.1 its very reliable and i'm really liking it. I'll probably use precise for years to come just like I did 4.2.1.

My vote to Carolina. It seems to be the easiest Puppy I've compiled on, and I dig its easy to adjust eye candy. Don't think I could ever go back to rox/JWM or even rox/icewm... and I used to love Icewm

Another great thing I didn't count on when I made it the standard to install on other people's computers, is that it's easier for them to change whatever they need to because it's all clearly labeled in the Control Panel.

Which windows manager does Carolina use? Looks a lot like the windows xp embedded theme on my windows computer.

If you (or anybody reading this, for that matter) haven't given Carolina a try, do yourself a favor!

Agreed with battleshooter - Carolina is outstanding. My go-to Pup when I just want to get on with computing instead of fiddling.

I'll probably be more interested in the lite version. Where can I download Carolite or whatever they call it? Or maybe a puplet with that windows manager based on an older puppy like the 4 series.
Edit - I see Nearly Office Pup (NOP) also uses Xfce. MMM, some delving and testing to do.

As Moat said, XFCE. The XFWM theme (window manager) theme is Numix in case you were wondering.

I'm curious though as to what theme you're referring to because Numix looks nothing like the Windows XP Embedded theme:

The working window looks quite alike to me. BTW, are there other icons available for XFCE? Those in your pic looks a bit crappy to me (is it the default).

Nope it's not default, I picked those icons myself because I like them

The default icon theme is Faenza, I'm sure you've seen them before:

Anyway, installing icons in XFCE is a breeze. Just put them in /usr/share/icons and select the theme in Control Panel -> Appearances.

The icons in the menu are controlled like any Puppy, with Desktop Icon Switcher. (Also in Control Panel.)

Puppy Linux 5.7 is my choice. It is extraordinarily small, yet quite full-featured. Puppy boots into a ramdisk and, unlike live CD distributions that have to keep pulling stuff off the CD, it loads into RAM.

I'm finding that a lot of websites now won't load in the older browsers which come with some of the earlier Pups I like (such as Fire Hydrant, which is based on Puppy 3.01), and unfortunately that limits my choice of the Pups I can use on a daily basis. (This site, thankfully, loads in pretty much all of them).
