Joydev not working same distro different machine

I am running Macpup 5.1.1 it is based on lucid pup

I am building an entertainment machine for my toddler because I am an awful parent.. The goal is to have VLC open randomized playlists of her favorite shows based on button presses from a logitech PSX rip off controller via qjoypad.

Problem: lsusb shows device, and lsmod shows joydev, but joydev is not using the device.

Why no work?

I should mention I am running the same distro in my machine and the same joypad works fine with a simple modprobe joydev and qjoypad --notray script..

Also, I tried multiple joypads on both machines. Both work on mine, none work on most beautiful wonderful Daughters new ADD box..
