linux28 & James C,

i've compiled the realtek hda drivers, these are only for the default 3.14.11 kernel and won't work with other kernels.
may need reboot

let me know if they work and i'll include them in the new build

The 'Internet Connection Wizard' supports PPPoE.
Have you tried clicking on the 'connect' icon on your desktop, and then selecting 'PPPoE'?

Installed the pet. Selected each possible sound card and rebooted after each change.
Still no audio anywhere.

Thanks for trying.

hi csipesz,

the best way would be to use woof.ce as you can choose whether to build a traditional puppy or with the new zdrv.sfs.
or you could just take one of the older tahrpups that were built the old way and fix them up ... i think 5.8.2 was the last one built the old way https://archive.org/details/Puppy_Linux_Tahrpup

After the installation
"play test sound" OK!
play mp3 But there was no sound
Repeated adjustment mixer is no sound

Something puts a 'drives' icon to my desktop and cannot be disabled in desktop drive icon manager. (if I delete .pup_event/drive_drives, st rekreates it after X restart).

Any idea what script should I remove?

Tried the unstripped pet...still zero audio. Even burned a new multi-session disc and started fresh.

I imagine if I unhooked HDMI and reverted to VGA and onboard sound that the audio would work but that's not really an option. This is primarily a Windows box with the occasional Puppy on multi-session so I'm not too concerned. Tahr works fine on all of my non-HDMI boxes where I mainly run Linux.
Thanks for trying.

EDIT:
Just tried Ubuntu 14.10 live DVD...... no sound there either.

PostPosted: Sun 12 Oct 2014, 14:51    Post subject: tahrpup 5.8.4 final

tahrpup 5.8.4 final (hopefully)

updated

kernel 3.14.20 (others available in quickpet)
jwmc latest (you'll either love or hate the new look)
bash 4.3.29 .....on going
pburn 4.3.10
mhwaveedit 1.4.23
sfs_load 2.3
quickpet
pup-sysinfo 2.5.2
parcellite 1.1.9 see comment below
power-applet-tray (added pemasus battery alarm warning)

added

new boot graphics
samba tng
firewall genie
hdmi sound drivers (might work)
mtpaint is back ...yay!
shred from lucid
mesa-vdpau-drivers
LDD list dynamic dependencies right click
opus codec
rtmpdump
flvstreamer
'open containing folder' works in browser
all bug fixes from testing (fingers crossed)

first off i hope you notice the huge improvement in accelerated graphics that this kernel brings. for the first time in puppy, i can actually smoothly stream both youtube and iplayer full screen on my under powered netbook! on all puppies before it was like a slide show... including older tahrpups.

i've frozen the ubuntu packages in this build as building with the latest updated ones was causing bad performance issues.

i'm a little worried about the bash update though, i hope it plays nicely with tahrpups core workings.

the updated jwm fixes a bug that's bugged me for ages in various pups. when playing a film fullscreen there would be a single white pixel in all 4 corners of the screen. if you hate the new look you can grab the old one from the repo on ibiblio.

i noticed a bug in the old parcellite clip board manager, it would sometimes get a link which confuses it and write lots of error messages to the log slowing the computer down, this also happened in upup raring. i've updated to the latest and hope it's fixed, but if scrolling in the browser suddenly gets choppy, check /tmp/xerrs.log and post it here.

As I understand why you shared "hopefully", will the manner of service updates still be the same as was used in 583?
