Intel Centrino Advanced-N 6205 AGN

:::::::::::

" The short answer is that the Intel Centrino Advanced-N 6205 AGN

does work "out of the box" under Linux,

at least with Ubuntu 12.04 LTS where it was tested.

After installing the PCI-E x1 WiFi card and attaching the antenna,

Ubuntu 12.04 LTS with the Linux 3.2 kernel was booted.

To some surprise, everything worked just fine, including WPA/WEP!

There was not any dealing with out-of-tree wireless driver, no ndiswrapper, no fiddling with firmware, or any other headaches. It just worked!"

The driver code is not in Linux kernel yet.

Instructions for our gurus there though.

Thanks

So I have tried with Puppy precise and it's ok

I write half solved for this post because this answer is only an alternative but it is not a good new for pupplet like french asri300 which is based on lucid.

The kernel in Puppy Lucid (and presumably also its derivatives) is too old to support the Intel 6205 wifi chipset.

No no no .. sigh.
Rerwin's updated Lucid variants still have the same 2.6.33.2 kernel.

The only Puppy Lucid 5.2.x derivative with a more modern kernel is 5.2.9 "Three Headed Dog" ...
but I think some people here are missing the point - the original poster is wanting to get their Intel 6205 wifi device working under the "Asri 300" French derivative based on Lucid 5.2.8.
Any driver which might work with a different kernel is (obviously) non-applicable to Asri 300.

You should download Three-Headed Dog 5.2.8.005 Updated APR 25 2012 and boot with it to make sure it finds your networking adapters. If it does and you post a download link for ASRI300 I will be happy to switch kernels for you. Or you can do it yourself as outlined here How to switch kernels between Puppy versions. It has kernel 2.6.37.6 which sounds like it should work.

Yep, that will work ... but once you make the effort to do a kernel transplant, it's feasible to go all the way -
why not the 3.10.5 kernel from Slacko-5.6?

But if alaindu22 (who has been oddly silent through all of this) chooses to try Three-Headed Dog, there's still the issue of compatible firmware - the Intel 6205 requires firmware: iwlwifi-6000g2a-5.ucode
I just booted to my Three-Headed Dog CD now, and I can confirm that its version of the Intel iwlagn driver definitely supports this firmware, as confirmed by the output of -

Code: Select all

modinfo iwlagn
... and guess what, Three-Headed Dog is missing this firmware!
Get it here -
http://wireless.kernel.org/en/users/Dri ... 68.5.3.tgz
Once uncompressed, it needs to be located in /lib/firmware

The original poster is long gone.
Dotpet attachment removed.

As I recall there were problems in lupu528 upgrading to kernel3xxx. Seems some of the scripts wouldn't work. Didn't try it myself but others did.

Lucid superlupu 528-006 should work

Lucid superlupu 528-006 should work,
Switch the kernel to 3.0.25 (Racy 5.3) does it too.
