Back running live on the octo-core.

5.8.4 pae version on a pfix=ram boot kernel panics every attempt.Tried several times.
Booting pfix=ram, nox however, does boot to a prompt...xorgwizard only allows the modesetting driver (not nouveau),will pass the test but the goes to a non-responsive blinking cursor.Total no go.

But,the non-pae versions boots straight to the correct 1920x1080 desktop with working internet.Still no damn sound though. :)

Both versions appear to be working pretty normally on a bit older hardware though.

Thank you very much for developing this awesome distro!
I only have one remark: I cannot get my audio to work in either 5.8.3 or 5.8.4, nor in Slacko 5.4 Opera. My sound-chip is a ALC892 (Intel HDA/Azalia) on a Asrock E350M1 board. When I play audio, I don't hear anything on my 3.5mm headphones or HiFi-system. Changing the output mode in the ALSA mixer doesn't matter (S/PDIF,HDMI and analog).
What also seems a little weird is that I cannot change anything, I can only put a tick in box for the digital output (even when I have "Analog" selected).
Now Puppy does not recognize any sound card.

I have already tried the realtek drivers you posted without result.

Do you know what might be causing the problem?

Yes, the problem is only with guvcview !
And, it's an other question, i don't understand why the computer is faster with tahrpup 5.8.3 rc1 than with 5.8.4 : with 5.8.4 the harddisk is always run (frugal install)!

is this the PAE or noPAE version?

Hi @Philh.

I know this is a little late, but, if may help others, too, who have a Windows PC and also use PUPs on that PC. From time to time we need to adjust partition sizes for various normal needs.

See this thread for a simple guideline.

Hope this helps in the future

5.8.4 PAE was a total no-go on the 8-core box but zero problems on this older quad-core box. Manual frugal install.

Gmail Phone Fix

#591 Post by sszindian »

On Page 36 of this thread I posted=

The only issue I can find (and this was in 5.8.3 as well) is that the google plugin (downloaded in Gmail) for the Gmail Phone does not work! Tried both the 32 and 64 bit plugins and neither work in both pale moon and firefox browsers.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Since then (after much frustration trying various fix's) I'm happy to say... Gmail Phone Now Works'! But... there is a 'TRICK'!

After installing the Gmail Plugin available from google (in your gmail screen...) 'You Must Reboot Your Computer' and then when you enter gmail again, watch for a 'one-liner' to appear just below the Gmail Heading that says 'Allow' gmail to use this plugin! Then after allowing... another function will appear saying 'Allow & Remember' be sure to click this too. You might have to re-boot your computer one more time but then Gmail Phone should be alive and working.

Usually one doesn't haqve to re-boot after installing programs in puppy for them to work but... this time you do!

Maybe, we (the Xbatalarm authors, me and my husband) can help, if you can give us a feedback about the wrong behaviour or an error output.

Thanks in advance. Congratulations for Tahrpup. :)

Bye.

Pelo

pleeease, sda1 no !

#599 Post by Pelo »

Tahrpup 5.8.3 Sfs sda1 is listed as available partition, in fact should be prohibited since 2011 windows 7 release. Unless you want me killing my Windows 7 which never ennoys me, quiet in sda1, sda2, sda4. My Puppies need so few MBs. I can satisfy with sda2 (200GB)
