barry k, 01micko, shinobar, mavrothal, giro, rcrsn51, zigbert, sfr, peebee, wjaguar, james c, billtoo, musher0, don570, wyzguy, radky, sszindiian, live, B.K.johnson, brownmouse, pemasu, ally, gcmartin, and anyone i've forgot to mention.

tahrpup was only possible because of 'woofCE', forked from woof created by Barry k, maintained by 01micko and contributed to by various others.... all the hard work went on there :)
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Minimum System Requirements
Recommended: 1000MHz processor (p4), 768MB RAM and either bootable cd access, usb boot, sdcard or network boot access. A Hard Drive is not required

downloads:
http://distro.ibiblio.org/puppylinux/pu ... 20-6.0-CE/
http://ftp.nluug.nl/ftp/pub/os/Linux/di ... 20-6.0-CE/ quicker download usually
kernel sources are in quickpet

a 64bit tahrpup is also available http://murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?t=96748
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
ondemand cpu-scaling is on by default, but for a snappier desktop and applications you might want to set it to 'performance' in .... menu>>system>>CPU frequency scaling

elephantis has made a tahrpup theme for palemoon/firefox https://addons.mozilla.org/en-GB/firefo ... pup-6-0-2/

tahrpup has the open source 'brcmsmac' wireless drivers for modern broadcom devices, however some users may need the proprietary WL driver compiled by 'peebee' here https://www.copy.com/s/qWQ1BkPMDnPPFk7C
k3.14.20_2 for 6.0.2 & k3.14.20 for 6.0

please read the post below this one to see any outstanding issues with tahrpup.

updates & bugfixes
If you open Quickpet you'll see a 'tahrpup update/bug fixes' button. As bugs are discovered and fixed, clicking on this button will install all the latest fixes, so it's a good idea to check this regularly.
After numerous fixes, they'll all be combined into a puppy service pack. when a service pack is available, you'll be prompted about it automatically when you open the puppy package manager.

there is a kernel update for 6.0 here http://murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic. ... 799#819772

please posts bugs in the bugs thread http://murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic. ... 292#805292

enjoy

this second post is for outstanding issues with tahrpup, and will be updated as things are discovered and fixed.

1. xorgwizard can fail and leave you at a blank screen requiring hard
poweroff if you mess about changing drivers too much.

2. (6.0 only as fixed in 6.0.2) ndiswrapper ... for the PAE you need to type

Code: Select all

depmod -a
into a terminal to get it working.
for the noPAE iso you'll need the .pet here http://murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic. ... h&id=81453

3. some VIA graphic cards are reported not to work

4. some QT5 apps such as the latest calibre require proprietary graphic drivers to work

.................................................

FIXED when booting with two savefiles, and at the point where you have to choose which savefile to load, some usb keyboards aren't recognised... plugging into a different usb port may help (you'll need to update the kernel see here http://murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic. ... 799#819772

FIXED remaster puppy cd isn't working with save to folder

Congrats indeed!

I have emailed Barry, so an "official" announcement from him (via his blog) should be soon.

Cheers!

Just done a frugal install on my HP Desktop with AMD FX-6100. Everything is working well. Wifi working. Save file created and rebooted. All programs tried so far functioning well.

Have successfully installed Cups drivers for my Brother Laser printer. Printing working.

Thank you. Great job on this version of puppy.

Congratulations on bringing this fine puppy to release.

@Those who like living dangerously
"savefolder using symbolic links", is available for TahrPup 6.0.
Download http://www.fishprogs.info/puppy/tahr6/initrd.gz and http://www.fishprogs.info/puppy/tahr6/ydrv_tahr_6.0.sfs, and move them into a directory containing a frugal install of TahrPup 6.0.

Tahrpup 6.0 released

http://bkhome.org/news/?viewDetailed=00097
Tahrpup 6.0 released

We have another official Puppy Linux release!

Since I retired from developing Puppy Linux early in 2014, keen members of the Puppy-community forked my Woof Puppy-builder, naming it woof-CE.

Since then, 01micko has been active with a Puppy built from Slackware packages, with a new release expected soon.

The guys have also been working on another pup, built from Ubuntu Trusty Tahr packages, under the leadership of Phil Broughton (666philb in the Puppy Forum), and this has now reached release status. It is named "Tahrpup" and is version 6.0.

Wow! A near-perfect Puppy!
Now that should bring PuppyLinux up a few notches on DistroWatch!

Here's my new TahrPup-6.0 desktop, using picture 12463936214_3720372ece_o.jpg
from the series of jpeg's available from the Tahr Picture Contest at:

Thanks, philb!
