Who likes the Bubbles game?

#1 Post by Jesse »

I'm having a go at rewriting the bubbles game to be a bit more fun.
Who likes playing it as is?
and what do you think could make it better? i.e. if you want someone else to put a cool feature into it without having to learn programming in tcl/tk, then fire your thought my way :D

Somewhere around the 3rd or 4th level, the red colors are way too close to each other. At first I thought it was my limited video options that was causing this. So I switched my video mode to 640*480*24bit (the only resolution that supports 24-bit color here) but I still find that the two shades of red are way too close to each other.

A simple fix to the colors would single-handedly prevent me from giving up in frustration after a few levels, and therefore make for a far more enjoyable experience. Thanks in advance if this can be done without too much trouble.

Well spotted Glitchman.
I thought it was a bug in the program for a couple of weeks, till I realised that one was red and one was orange. very hard to make out though.

I put some sounds into Spider a while ago but am still looking for a decent card dealing sound.

Yeah spider is pretty cool, I want to rewrite that one too... make it a generic card game player like Kpat (has about 16 card games in the one program), and fix the bugs in it too :)

(re bubbles)
Sounds are a good idea, but not sure about what kind of sounds to put in... "what is the sound made when two bubbles collide?" is where I keep drawing a blank answer.

The sorts of things I was thinking about for Bubbles was like adding in challenge rounds, multicolor bubbles which clear all the colors they land next to, extra difficult levels, the sort of thing that adds "game play".
Having the ability to select "clear colors for limited pixel depth displays" is important, and I added that in about 20 mins, so looking for something a little more challenging for my skills, and hopefully will make for a game that more people will want to play more :)

If you can get hold of a copy of the original game Myst there is a ' The making of Myst ' video file on it that shows how they generated the underwater bubbling sound.

Yep, make all colors bright and distinct. I'm color blind where some dark colors all tend to look like mud and others where I am totally lost where one is only couple shades lighter.

I have a chinese checkers game installed on my puppy. Same sort of color problems. Wrote the author from download website, but no reply. I like chinese checkers and this isnt bad version, but colors just werent thought through. People who design games should have adjustments to color available for board, background, and gamepieces.

Anyone interested in the pinball game Rollemup can download it here:

http://www.jmurray.id.au/rollem.html

This page contains instructions that are a must to read.

Essentially what you do is download the tarball, unpack it and cd to the directory where it is installed and start it from there.

This is quite a sophisticated game with sounds and is similar to the MS version.

I think I'll start a Games page on the Wiki with links to this and the DotPup games and any other sites such as the one Lobster has above as some interest has been shown about games for Puppy in the chat room.

You must also download the libstdc++.so.2.8.0 file and place it in /usr/lib, there are instructions on the Wiki under PupGames on how to deal with this file.

I have not put it in /lib but have followed convention and made a symbolic link to the file.

How about a re-mastered puppy for those roudy children with nothing else
to do.

Boot from CD no internet access, just games games games.

Hours of fun for the toddlers.

No worries for parents and their fragile win****s PC. :D

I like the bubbles game.

Right now it's quite easy as if it was meant for little kids. (maybe it is)

I would like to se the bubbles moving down every 'x' seconds, where 'x' gets smaller at each level. Like space invaders.

Maybe also a little character dancing around once you finish a level.
