using pup_save on another system

#1 Post by yalmog »

I tried to copy the pup_save file to a new system in hope to get all the settings/installations of the first system. Both puppy 2.10. It didn't work (I didn't record the errors). The second is newer system with different partitioning.
Is there a correct way how to do it?

If basics in configuration differ - such as partitions... what else is INCOMPATIBLE ?

If no extensive added- in Apps/customizations : Just save as did first time.
Re-name or move old saved settings FIRST !

A persistent, separate home partition is suggested.

If you just "start over" on the new one, you can later mount your old file and transfer over whatever you need.

Mounting can be done on the command line (mount /path-to-savefile/pup_save.3fs /mnt/data -o loop), but Sunburnt posted a dotpup that might be easier:
