tp-link router, Broadcom BCM4318(802.11g) (Solved)

#1 Post by bambuko »

I have (full) installed Tahr 6.0 on my laptop and tried to connect to LAN
Router is set with WPA2, my own password(key) works on other computers, but here in Puppy I am being told that it must be between 8 and 63 characters (it is 7 and works fine for me on all other machines).
Scanning wireless networks shows mine as available (Master; Encryption:on)
Test of wlan0 shows "unable to connect to a wireless network"
Tried all the tools to no avail...
tried loading some "modules"

 very frustrating

Does this mean other Windows machines or other Linux machines?

It appears that the (8..63) requirement comes from wpa_supplicant, which is the Linux tool for authenticating to the router. It is not a specific Puppy problem.

It means other windows machines and also windows installed on the same laptop as the one I am trying tahrpup 6.0

I also searched the forum bit more and following the search I did:

Code: Select all

pccardctl status
and got the following:

Code: Select all

Socket 0:
no card
Socket 1:
no card
which is a bit puzzling (but than a lot is puzzling to me :) )

Panic over - it was my own stupidity
I was using wrong shared key (not something I had to do on windows hence my confusion).

What I had to do actually, was to login into TP-Link and look up wireless security and find PSK Password (which is actually what I needed).

All is working fine.

Thank you for your help (which was not made easy with me being confused - sorry)

I wise man said:

You must be smarter than the equipment you are operating.

Is that possible with computers :?:
The things they do not tell you, are usually the clue to solving the problem.
When I was a kid I wanted to be older.... This is not what I expected
