Packaged the latest Flashplayer, find it in the repo flashplayer-11.2.202.440.

I've been searching to find what the xfont warning might be, this isn't a new problem, from what I gather xorg is a possible problem. Confused

Yup - DPI was one tweak that has appeared to make a significant difference. After tweaking for a bit more, I'd now consider my initial font issues to be resolved. Cool

Thanks much for this r2, battleshooter - she's just gorgeous! Smile

Excellent, glad to hear that Moat. Now just to consider should I change the DPI in Vanguard by default?

Who hates the "Show Full Path" in the thunar right click menu, well I've made a better one, I got sick of using the existing way of getting a file/folder path.

Now it just works, right click on a file or folder and click Copy Path, now you can paste it in any application.

battleshooter you will like this, makes it so much easier as there is no dnd from thunar to gtk.

It requires xclip from the repo, it's a small 15kb binary and the copy script is 67 bytes, why did I wait so long.

So right Geoff, I do like this, that manual copy step was so redundant... thanks Very Happy Definitely going in the next Vanguard.

I also had need to make a symlink.... oh man, that create symlink's a dream. No need to open two Thunar windows to drag and drop or hunt around for link-to-@#$%. These two fixes... brilliant Geoff. I never realized how much they bothered me till I didn't have to live with it anymore. It's the little things... the little things Shocked Laughing

Hi @battleshooter/ @Geoffrey can i trouble you with compiling one?

xf86-input-synaptics-1.8.1 is actually included in Vanguard Release 2. I think the last thing I settled on was it was a config issue or something? I'm a little out of touch with your case, have I been having a 2 week holiday? Hmmm Embarassed

Want to send me a sys-info snapshot so we can start up diagnostics again? I'm not sure how busy I'll be over the next few weeks, been called up for jury duty, but we may as well get the ball rolling again.

Weird, on my first read through I thought this was due to Luxi-Mono overtaking some basic fonts but, clearly with yours and Geoff's tests, it's not the case.

Keisha wrote:

Luxi Mono is restful on the eyes because its pronounced serifs make identification of individual characters easy. Which is especially vital if you're using transparent windows. But it looks good that large only if you have a decent version of libfreetype to render it with.

I've actually kinda got used to it now. It's not bad. I have yet to try your tips, but thanks for posting them. The comparisons are handy as well.

PostPosted: Fri 30 Jan 2015, 12:41    Post subject: Sound Volume Controls --Solved -- for me at least

Hi battleshooter & All,

A couple of posts back I reported experiencing a problem similar to or the same as others: That in attempting to increase sound volume I had opened Alsa mixer, after which no volume controls were recognized.

The wife has gone to do something called "Chair Yoga" so I can surreptitiously explore her Toshiba again.

I remembered Retrovol and a quick check of Carolina's repo while on my desktop revealed a pet, albeit, circa 2012. Don't you just love Pupmode 13 with configuration set not to Save unless desired? With nothing to loose except time I used PPM to install it.

See Attached Screenshot.

Somewhere along the way in my prior exploration, I had used the Multi-Sound Card Wizard to set hw to 0. HW1 actually works better under Vanguard. Now I couldn't find the Wizard. Where did it go? Misplacing it may have been a good thing as I had to think of another way to get back to HW1. I merely clicked the dialog box on the hardware configuration window, deleted the zero and typed in the 1. Click Apply and Done.

Discernible sound even for these old ears.

I wonder if my Alsa upgrades have made things worse instead of better due to overriding some of Puppy's standard conf files.

If anyone with Alsa problems could try downgrading back to the Alsa from the repo (It's in the Wary section) and report back here if there's a difference that would be good.

No difference for me. Alsa wizard/setup still doesn't find anything (when run after booting and sound working ok).

Here's a bit of a update with those, In my haste with the "Copy Path" I was getting ahead of myself, no need for a script, just change the custom command to this
Code:
echo -n %f | xclip -selection c

Not that it matters as the Copy Path works fine as it is, but I'll write a script to fix the "Copy Path" a little later.

Edit: see previous post http://murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?p=823298#823298

Create Symlink script, it's now changed to use two radio buttons for selection and fixed so "Relative" always makes a link in the selected file/folder directory.

I didn't notice that the notification theme was not the default one. Good to know there's Ninix and heaps of other gorgeous notification themes. For now it's Smoke theme.

Excellent, glad to hear that Moat. Now just to consider should I change the DPI in Vanguard by default?

The current DPI and font size are fine for me. When changing them, I find the Qt apps (example SMPlayer & Clementine) sticking out like a sore thumb Confused that no amount of adjustment in the Qtconfig utility can make the font sizes match the vlina theme. The only thing that's standing out atm are the sidebar font size in LibreOffice welcome screen - so huge (like size 14?) compared to the menu font size, which honors the theme font size. Shown in attachment.

As pfind can't find the package, I assume it was included in the "big" xorg then?

PostPosted: Tue 03 Feb 2015, 19:09    Post subject: Problem with Chromium on a Dell Latitude 6400

Hi All,

I''ve reported the problem on the kost@s's Chromium-thread, http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?p=825872#825872, but as the Pup I attempted to run it under was Carolina-Vanguard, which may therefore be a factor in the failure, I'd appreciate if you have any ideas or suggestions that you post them the Chromium thread.

Thanks in advance,

Hi Mike, have you tried using the deb directly from Chrome's homepage? I've been using 38 from there on Vanguard with no problems.

Hmm ok, noted. I'll look into that. Huh, the "need-to-look-into" list is getting longer than my arm Rolling Eyes (That's my fault not yours by the way, I appreciate everyone's faithful reporting Wink)

Yep, you assume correctly.

Thanks for being persistent Smile. It's a two way street and I wouldn't have the opportunity to get Carolina working on Chromebooks if weren't for you. You're a pioneer for Chromebook users around the world Laughing

Ok thanks, now I can check that solution off my list. I'll post back when I can think of something new.

Thanks Geoff I'll update that on my end.

Sorry to add to actually-important support requests -- but would it be possible at some point to do a sort of 'service pack' release? I've been thinking about trying Vanguard, but I'm a little hesitant because it feels like I'd have to chase down approximately two jatillion dotPETs to fix little tiny things... and I really don't get along well at all with bugs, even little tiny ones...

...no rush, of course, I'm low-priority here (and I know it!)...

It's not a bad idea. Most fixes we figured out in Release 1 we included in Release 2. There isn't exactly a 'jatillion' of fixes since then because I haven't been working very hard on Vanguard. I wish I had a gazillion of fixes Confused ...

The only major fixes and can think of is Geoff's handy dandy symlink creator and copy address updates. I'll certainly keep it in mind though, when I actually have some fixes to include. Embarassed

Uh... isn't there extensive work in this thread on bugs...? Confused

Well, OK, some of it's feature requests (eg Marv's Bay Trail setup) but I personally lump all that together... easier that way IMO.

Went ahead and tried it, and am quite impressed. I daresay it runs better on my netbook than X-Slacko 2.2!

One small UI note -- when it asks about the firewall wizard, the buttons really ought to be yes/no rather than ok/cancel Wink

With a fresh frugal install to /dev/sda1. I was suprised when the apps in the live session did not carry over
into the install but I have not read the whole thread either. Flying blindly into this one. Wink

So I do not know if this has ben mentioned , so I'll just mention it.

Remote file does not exist -- broken link!!!

I have already over wrote perl installs and gtk-youtube-viewer is the only fail for me. I have not rebooted yet since this install. Been busy installing Audcious and Smlayer and updating Firefox, blah, blah, blah.

Looking cool beans so far.

Lots of room here
