8) you know the feeling. you find a tecno treasure among the random electronics at goodwill or savers say an old Gravis Gamepad Pro! or maybe an old Wingman extreme digital? what im asking is how do you set up a gameport-style gamepad with slacko; and, does anyone have this or a similar problem :?:

Use this search to look for gamepad in the Puppy forum.
http://puppylinux.us/psearch.html
There are several topics on this.

You may just want to try using Puppy Arcade 11.

The things they do not tell you, are usually the clue to solving the problem.

how i get gamepad to work in all puppies i have tried is open up terminal and type this "modprobe joydev" and enter then "modprobe analog" and enter without quotes.

you can use hardinfo to see if modules are loaded.

if all went well you can create a script in /root/Startup to execute those commands.

after loading the modules does the gampad show up in hardinfo under device section? if it does you are good to go and just need to research how to set it up with games or emulators you want.

sorry man wish i could help ya more, with out having you exact gamepad and trying to set it up myself i cant help more. Its been a long time when last set up gamepad so all i can tell ya is off memory.

with enough research and dedication anything is possible, i have faith in ya.

Sounds like you need to load one or all of Slacko's *gameport* drivers.

Is there a "grip/two player mode" switch on the back of the Gravis?

Is your ride something current or was Slacko installed onto an older box?

Have you had a chance to sample the latest community offering?

yes it as a 1 player 2 player grip switch on the gravis and I've tried setting it up with that switch in each mode and it makes no difference and as far as a new box it is not a box tecnically speaking. tecnically speaking it is a tower pc that is about 17 years old and has its gameport on its creative labs sound blaster verson of the ES1370. :D

I am sort of new I have a decent understanding of the android systems (aka
I have a android phone and tablet) I understand the structure and everything and how to paste into a terminal (via middle mouse button) but how do you copy from a terminal? by the way I often type like I talk. 8) 8) 8) 8) 8)

Since I'm "sort of" willing to address the Gravis, let's see if that Android know-how pays off.

Set the switch on the back to grip & keep it there.

Plug it and reboot.

When the desktop returns, open your terminal and run these one @ a time:

Code: Select all

lsmod > lsmod.txt
gzip lsmod.txt
Now open "file" on the upper right of your desktop.

Find "lsmod.txt.gz" and attach it with your reply.

 Wanna better terminal? Install Sakura.

OK. Aside from analog, joydev, snd_ens1370 & gameport modules being loaded, there's lots I don't know.

If you wanna continue, dwnld and install this. Yes, debs'll go too.

Now since I think your controller's a shrimp or two short a cocktail, you'll need to "modprobe" a few extra modules and see if we can't get a rise outta jstest.

You're gonna go one for one, meaning load a module >> test.

You'll be looking for something I can't physically test.. A device response.

Let's start with this one:

Code: Select all

modprobe emu10k1-gp
Followed by these, one @ a time and toggling the various gamepad buttons between each:

Code: Select all

jstest --normal
jstest --old
jstest /dev/js0
jstest /dev/js1
If nothing, you're gonna repeat this sequence after loading these modules:

Code: Select all

modprobe grip
modprobe grip_mp
If still nothing, give this one a shot:

Code: Select all

modprobe ns558
Again, without a controller, it's gray matter to me.

Good luck.

And before mixing that highball, gzip and attach this to your reply:

Code: Select all

cat /proc/bus/input/devices > devices.txt
