STEP1c: ifconfig wlan0 down
STEP2: iwconfig wlan0 mode managed
STEP3: iwconfig wlan0 channel 1
STEP4: iwconfig wlan0 essid "belkin.51c"
STEP5: iwconfig wlan0 key restricted DenLu1406
STEP5a: ifconfig wlan0 up
STEP6a: dhcpcd wlan0
Those steps are for connecting to a router using WEP encryption. Your belkin.51c was originally using WPA2.

Yes, it could be a simple case of you needing to select the correct type of encryption in the Network Wizard - WPA2.
