What is the best way to search for files and items inside files with Quirky? That Pfind program is completely worthless and never finds anything. Anyone know of a program that actually works that I can download and get the job done?

If you are willing to learn a command line tool... grep
It is not difficult once you understand the syntax.

It can be as simple as:

grep PATTERN FILE...

Search for PATTERN in each FILE

To look for the string "r.by" in all "txt" files
The dot "." in "r.by" means any character.

grep "r.by" *.txt

will find "ruby" or "roby" or...

Change the line in /usr/sbin/quicksetup

Dont know ifyou are aware of the work done by both @Musher0 and @StemSee to accelerate finding any file in your PUPs.

I have tested and must assert that finding files in Aprils are INSTANTANEOUS!

Please either consider their work, or consider the addition of SLOCATE command or UPDATEDB commandset to this system.

The RAM cost is near-zero percent to distro system content and the risk is nil.

Hope this is helpful to move file searches to instantaneous results in a terminal.

And, I really admire what @Mavrothal has done for PPM2.

Hmmm, I just now wanted to scan something, but found that /usr/bin/xsane is zero bytes. Using April64 7.0.2.

It's in T2, has got lost somewhere along the line. Will fix that pronto.

No. I had to do some awful hacks. Haven't been brave enough to try it in T2 yet.
I have documented the steps, can post them if you are interested.

EDIT:
I should add that compile fails, building a test utility. But, I found that it had finished compiling everything, and just did a manual install.
But that is not good enough for T2. The compile would have to complete without error.
The investment in time is the main problem -- takes about 12 hours to compile.

For your UEFI page you might have a look at the itsfoss.com page's acer link also with secure boot.

I got a new toshiba laptop (they were on special) last week to replace my old 2001 Dell 3000, good for writing still, but with max 512meg.... I found that I had to put a master password in to turn off secure boot as the acers do. However, turning off the master password afterwards, as Abhishek sugested, turned secure boot back on so it needs to be left in. Maybe worth a comment.

I've also got a Acer Aspire V5 Touchscreen coming for Quirky 7, that should be interesting as it's being built up to be a 'mobile graphics workstation' as the touchscreen although soft will run as a 10point pickup, necessary for good graphics from a 'pencil'.

Looking forward to the next April64 on my touchscreen PCs. Improvements are sort for OOTB trackings and any other touch activity with the desktop to make desktop use a "wiz". If we can have any functional use of mouse button 1 on an open area of the desktop, it would certainly be viewed as positive step. Maybe, this could even be a FirstRUN offer to users if undesired to offer it OOTB.

Remember, @RufWoof did do much research and explanation on this ability.

I really like the Quirky series.

As a Puppy fan, at first I didn't quite *get it* as to what Quirky was all about, without the portability of Puppy on a few small files. But now I do appreciate the way it works.

Only thing that would be nice to carry over from Puppy is some of the benefits of the recent save to directory feature on ext* filesystems. Not in the same way as the layered filesystem of Puppy, but using a chroot method? Another lightweight distro does it with a kernel boot option "subroot=" to chroot to a subdirectory on a POSIX filesystem.

That could be another install option, install to directory on POSIX filesystem, in addition to drive, partition or frugal method. The main downside of frugal being the large RAM requirement, as it won't work on many old machines that Quirky currently runs well on.

It should chroot easily, If you get some time look at the tiny boot script, It looks like the way most chroots are done, but in RAM. Haven't looked at shutdown but at that speed, it could be equally small.

A dozen or so pages ago some one wrote a faster remaster script, It can pull it all apart for inspection/ tweeking startup into a chroot.
