Debian Jessie target release date announced.

#1 Post by anikin »

According to Niels Thykier of the Debian release team, the forthcoming version 8 of Debian, codenamed Jessie, will be released on Saturday 25th April.
Jessie Release
==============

We now have a target release date of Saturday the 25th of April. We
have checked with core teams, and this seems to be acceptable for
everyone. This means we are able to begin the final preparations for
a release of Debian 8 - "Jessie".

The intention is only to lift the date if something really critical
pops up that is not possible to handle as an errata, or if we end up
technically unable to release that weekend.

Please keep in mind that we intend to have a quiet period from
Saturday the 18th of April. Bug fixes must be *in Jessie* before
then.

I get that smirk on my face when I read statements like available on "9 or 10 DVD's or 61-69 CD's". I guess that puts the "iso" around 38Gb... won't even fit on a 32Gb drive. And it will still inflate. I dunno... to 80Gb or so?

You shouldn't.
9 or 10 DVD's means you have all packages from main Debian-Jessie repository available without need to have working internet connection. The first DVD is enough to install Debian.

Au contraire, mon frère, Jessie will be no worse than Wheezy.
As a matter of fact, it is shaping up to be much, much better.
That's what I'm seeing here, running various Debian flavors - Wheezy, Jessie and SID.

Cheer up!

Debian 8 is forcing beta-quality anti-user software down user's throats, and Debian 7 didn't.

I fail to see how Debian 8 is better than Debian 7.
