I seldom use flash and multimedia contents surfing the web: I like to read only text. Old hardware has become unuseable with recent browsers and today web, rich of multimedia and heavy contents. I know that firefox nightly is experimenting a way to ease reading text_only-reduced websites. I think developers should build a light browser to fit a "web of text" behaviour like the mine, reducing the bandwidth consume. A similar browser should be very useful as android app for smartphones putting down all flash and multimedia contents of a website and fitting only the text in the little display. Adverts could be only text. Why not?

flashblock and set gifs to animate only once I find helps a lot with the crud.
More recently I just disable the flash plugin...not like its needed for video content. 'Block images from' is another helpful one and our router can block domains and keywords...facebook sticks ads all over for starters and the google ones are on a separate domain to the search.

There's something called "Fifth" out there that they say is similar to Opera but I don't believe it has been compiled yet for Puppy.

It shows me in my lang so I don't know if you can read it. I will try firefox nightly, too. I saw a preview which makes a website as I want, but firefox nightly is too heavy for a very old hardware.

I have no problem on this: I wrote several times my country in this forum, I am italian. A new link for firefox:

I'm now using this useful add-on in an italian derivate of precise: Ogigia2015 Puppet. Fifth browser can't be compiled in precise: libfltk too old, version >= 1.3.3 required. Firefox nightly is now only en_US localized.

I compiled some versions of latest Dillo the other day.
These are built with (static) FLTK 1.3.3
Looks reasonably nice, surfs reasonably well and https downloads are enabled.

I think it would be nice if a browser (any browser) would have a "slider" similar to the zoom slider Opera uses, but which would allow the user to easily choose how much content they wanted to see. Push the slider all the way to the right and you get full multimedia content with all codecs, bring it back to the left a bit and flash etc gets locked out, slide it to the middle and get only text and pictures, then slide fully left and have the text only web,

There is a script I wrote somewhere on the forum that downloads websites with wget and strips away all the html tags leaving only text (used with one of my espeak text to speech wrapper scripts)

I believe it is w3m (unless you mean another browser I don't know). This one is pretty great, I've used for a long time, very customizable, it has options to enable/disable images, and also for vim key navigation, if you are into that kind of thing...
