1. "try unpacking my attachment to /usr/share/pixmaps"
Downloaded the gz file to "/mnt/home/00/semme", unpacked it to there, tried to copy it to "/usr/share/pixmaps", but Xfe reported that file already exists.
Should I overwrite the existing copy?
2. "If pixmaps didn't work, go into /tmp/firefox/browser/chrome/icons/default"
/tmp/firefox doesn't exist.
/usr/share/icons/hicolor does exist.

1. "If a real icon for 1, nevermind."
It isn't a real icon, it's only a LINK to an icon.
The link leads to "/usr/share/icons/hicolor/256x256/apps/firefox.png", and that appears to be a real icon image file.
2. "Extract the pkg to /tmp and you'll see.."
Done/seen.
What now? fixmenus?
I'll do that regardless right now. Surely can't do any harm.
Done, but made no difference.
It'd be better if you did this stuff using TeamViewer.

Open FF's desktop file and spec the icon line with:
.. then run fixmenus.
Code: Select all
/usr/share/icons/hicolor/256x256/apps/firefox.png

OK, so aside from TV not connecting on your end, we got FF squared away.
We're not going to worry about TV for now and simply accept it ain't gonna happen ATM.
I'm widdat.
Actually, try TV ONE more time. I made an adjustment..

Hello, Mick & folks.
I'd like to use Nvidia proprietary drivers for my old GeForce4 MX 440
AGP 8x. Looking around forum didn't help much and it seems there's no pre-compiled versions of NVIDIA-Linux-x86-96.43.23 for Slacko 5.70.
I've downloaded/loaded devx & kernel source for Non PAE k.3.4.82 and tried to build it myself but had no success so far.
Here's an error message from /var/log/nvidia-installer.log:
Prompt error looks like this:
Does it mean that there is no kernel support for this card or I should find/load additional headers/modules?
Thanks.
P.S. Otherwise, Slacko 5.70 works great on this old Athlon2500/1+GB RAM machine.

other desktop environments such as xfce use the desktop folder. items put in there appear on its desktop.Packetteer wrote:Hi All
Mick great job. Thanks to you I have found my favorite will use for ever
puppy.
In Slacko 5.7 there is a Desktop folder located in the root directory.
What is it for and how does one use it?
Thank you for your time in reading this E-mail.
Best Regards
John
it's not really used with puppy's default jwm & rox

You need latest version of GetFlash (broken links in older versions).
Get this one from here http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewto ... 869#835869 or here http://murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?t=84267
If your CPU is an older Athlon box, then use latest 10.xxx version. Version 11 is for more recent CPU's.
Cheers!
P.S. Anybody out there who could help me with compiling Nvidia legacy for Slacko 5.70? Please view my post on page 25. Thanks!

Re: Flash Player
Are you sure you are using the NON-PAE version?Griot wrote:P.S. Anybody out there who could help me with compiling Nvidia legacy for Slacko 5.70?
The reason I ask is because you say Slacko 5.70
The PAE Slacko is usually numbered 5.7.0
The non-PAE Slacko is usually numbered 5.7 (without the "0")
If you are sure you are using the correct kernel sources then it may be that the driver is old and was never updated to work with more recent kernels. If so then you may need to use your favourite search engine to look for a patch.

You got me wondering if I've downloaded correct versions of kernel sources and devx. I'm afraid that your assumption was correct.OscarTalks wrote:Are you sure you are using the NON-PAE version?Griot wrote:P.S. Anybody out there who could help me with compiling Nvidia legacy for Slacko 5.70?

Got the kernel sources from here
(kernel_sources-3.4.82-slacko_4g_f2fs.sfs) According to Mick's post here this is the non pae kernel. But...
Link for the devx.sfs via SFS manager (menu/setup) was broken so I found 'em here but mistakenly downloaded wrong version - 5.70 instead of 5.7.
I'll give it a shot later today, though I'm not very optimistic about final results, because Mick already noted that
which is correct and I managed to get proper resolution after switching to vesa, loading kernel sources and then choosing Nvidia driver with KMS.Old nvidia N3x cards (mx440, fx5200 and some others) often do not render properly.
For those use this string in a similar fashion to above:
nouveau.noaccel=1
I'm fine with OS drivers but my girls are not pleased since they can't play some of their favorite games.
So be it. I'll report later today, hopefully with 'capable to play games' driver.
Thank you, Oscar. You have a sharp eye!
