Wine 1.7.2 for Slacko

#1 Post by koulaxizis »

It worked fine for me but it would be nice if you could also test it, just to be sure... :) https://copy.com/3XP3nI1BsRcE

Got any links to an SFS for an up-to-date version of WINE?

Sylvander, Version 2013 has all the latest wines in the virtualisation forum.
Choose from Beaujolais, California Red, Australian Chardonnay etc.
Currently on 9th July vintage 1.76xx

This is, I assume, easy for you, but...
It isn't for me.
1. Had difficulty finding the "virtualisation forum" [never been there before], but I found it eventually.

2. Didn't understand what "Version 2013" is.
Eventually found a thread by a user named version2013...
Whew! Who would have thought!

3. I'd previously searched for WINE SFS files and found that thread, but couldn't find an actual SFS file to download.

4. e.g. If I click on the 1.7.46 link [you try it]...
I cannot find any WINE SFS files to download.

5. He provides "a few tools that I find useful in creating sfs files"...
But I have NEVER yet made an SFS file.
Even IF I manged to find a suitable PET file [I don't see any links to PET files there], I'd possibly/probably mess up the attempt to make an SFS.
Can you help make it easier for me?

Here you go mate, it is just a repack of version2013's wine-1.7.46-i486_v2.1.pet

I haven't tried it myself as i run an older version (wine-1.5.15-i686.pet)
which is included (amongst other things) in a custom 'Pimped' gimp .sfs (it's 445MB)

Oh, yes, it seems forum member Version 2013 (formerly known as Green Dome) provides pets only.
Here is a link to the Wines:
http://version2013.yolasite.com/page1.php#wine-misc

And you have to click on the little arrows to get the pets.
Next I was going to point to RSH's nice little Pet To SFS utility, which will convert to an SFS file.

but since Catdude has done you the wine sfs, you may not need to bother with it.

I must say I am still on wine 1,5,10 as it performs well on what I use.

Originally, I had wine-1.5.15-i646 installed, and that worked just fine, but I could only get Teamviewer-9 to work with that installed, and I needed TV10 so I could link with semme.

Running a TV10 SFS file, I'd get TV9 actually running, because TV9 was installed.
And quite conveniently, that worked OK with the installed wine-1.5.15-i646.

To get the TV10 SFS to work I had to uninstall both TV9 and wine-1.5.15-i646.

Then the TV10 SFS would work OK.
But I needed an installed, and compatible wine.
I found and used a wine-1.6-i486-p4.sfs, but that too was incompatible with the wine version 1.6 included in TV10.
Plus, it was a real hassle to use it; it took too long to get it functioning, had to install 2 other packages before it would work.

So I installed wine-1.6.2-i486_v2.2.pet, but that too was incompatible with TV10.
So...

I've downloaded wine-1.7.46-i486_v2.1.sfs using your link and I'll give that a try.
Is there any solution to the above problem?
Is it impossible to have an installed WINE that is compatible with TV10?
Or is there a WINE SFS that is easy and quick to load and run?

Will do ASAP, but other things are demanding my time.
I need time to read and understand.
BTW...how should I launch that script.
Bear with me, I'm getting old, and bits are beginning to drop away.
e.g. A week or so back I had a 4-hour "event" of "Transient Global Amnesia" [TGA].
I'd tell you more about it, but have NO MEMORY of it whatever.
[I must take my wife's word for it]
What time is it...
How did I get here...
What time is it.
How did I get here?
We have a car!?
Is this my house? WOW!
Look at the Out house, it's FABULOUS!
Look at you! Your fabulous!

For testing purposes, just make sure it is executable and then simply click on it.

/usr/bin or /usr/local/bin will do,
then drag 'n' drop it onto the desktop

Yup, with TV wanting its own version of Wine, CatDude's *export* method is the wait to go.

@CatDude
1. Made and ran the script file that included your supplied code, but TeamViewer didn't run.

2. Must I first:
Use a PET file to install TeamViewer? [Version 10 OK?]
OR...
Load and run an SFS file? [Version 10 OK?]

3. At the present time there is no /opt/teamviewer/tv_bin folder, as included in your code.
There does exist a /opt/teamviewer folder.
Does installing [or loading/running SFS of] TeamViewer create the tv_bin folder?

4. Aught I to create the script file before or after the /tv_bin folder has been created?

That would certainly help mate  , just load up your copy of: Teamviewer-10.0.36281.sfs

I assume you have unloaded the above mentioned .sfs,
and what you see left there (in /opt/teamviewer) is mainly config files.
You could delete the whole /opt/teamviewer directory before loading up the .sfs file if you wanted to,
it will all be re-created again anyway.

Shouldn't make any difference one way or the other mate.

1. With all of that done [Teamviewer-10.0.36281.sfs used], TV10 runs when I click the teamviewerlaunch icon I created on my desktop.

2. So what will happen if I now use an SFS to launch and run WINE?
[And then click teamviewerlaunch]
I have:
w1744.sfs
wine-1.5.4-i486.sfs
wine-1.6-i486-p4.sfs
wine-1.7.46-i486_v2.1.sfs
Any idea which would be best to load&run?

Well, if you don't have any other version of wine installed TeamViewer would (or should) work without the need for that launcher script.
The whole point of using it is to avoid a clash of wine versions.

Hopefully it would work,
as to which version of those to choose i can't say, basically find one that works with whatever you intend to run in it.

If for some reason or other one doesn't work, then unload it and delete the /root/.wine directory
then load up one of the others and try that.

SUCCESS! :D
I loaded and ran wine-1.7.46-i486_v2.1.sfs, then clicked on the teamviewerlaunch icon, and both TV10 and WINE are working as I hoped and expected, so all's well.

I thank you for your help CatDude. :D
