It is a parallel port Okidata OL610e.
I tried Cups but it could not find the printer and there is not an option for a parallel port printer.

I need some help.
From:
google search results

it would appear likely that kernels produced by 666philb probably don't have parallel port support. Both LxPup-15.06 and LxPupTahr-15.05 use 666philb kernels.

He has provided ppdev.ko for kernel 3.14.20 no-pae so if you are running LxPupTahr-15.05-nopae then this might be worth trying.

hey, I don't know which version I have Lxpup Tahr 15.02 maybe

How can I know my version ?

Is it important to update ? I really don't care about modifying the graphics and I prefer to avoid modifying stuff if not needed.

And can I go from 15.02 to 15.05 ?

You should have an icon on the desktop that tells you the version....

The iso name....

The names of the sfs files inside the iso....

Otherwise:
- click on the Personal Storage indicator in the system tray
or
- System -> System -> Pup-SysInfo: Sys-Specs -> Distro Specs

No need to update if you are happy with what you have.

You can update a frugal install of 15.02 to 15.05 - but suggest you backup personal storage first just in case...

This version works for parallel port printer.
The wireless initially connected but thereafter I could not get it to work on subsequent boots.

USB Multiboot 2015 Lite Speed 32

#688 Post by Gooplusplus »

Three Puppy-based distros are included in the just released USB Multiboot Lite Speed 32 Collection.

Image

The collection requires an 8GB USB flash drive for a non-persistent install and 16GB USB flash drive to add some/all of the (highly compressed) 8.5GB of persistence files.

That sounds like the known problem of the wl driver erroneously claiming a wifi device it shouldn't.....and may be showing up because you upgraded a savefile from 15.02 to 15.05? This was meant to be cured in a pristine install of 15.05.

Run lsmod - if it shows the wl driver loaded & you don't have Broadcom wifi then I suggest you should blacklist wl & reboot

Cheers

LxPupTahr-15.05.2

#693 Post by peebee »

Updated 15.05.2 versions of LxPupTahr have been uploaded - see:

lx-pup.weebly.com

The 15.05.2 pae and nopae versions have the following changes:

- openbox-3.6.1
- tahrfix7 as of 6-aug-15
- smaller iso size (from bigger .sfs block size)

Everything else including kernel remains the same - (hence the minor version increase to 15.05.2)

Cheers

Memory 1807MB (199MB used)
Machine Type Physical machine
Operating System LxPupTahr - 15.05

Display
Resolution 3840x1080 pixels
OpenGL Renderer ION/integrated/SSE2
X11 Vendor The X.Org Foundation

Audio Adapter PC-Speaker - pcsp

OpenGL
Vendor NVIDIA Corporation
Renderer ION/integrated/SSE2
Version 3.3.0 NVIDIA 340.76

Kodi works great on this pc.

Added applications from Quickpet and PPM, also compiled cmus-2.7.1
music player if anyone wants it.

Cmus creates an entry in the Multimedia section of the puppy menu, the
number keys 1-7 bring up screens, 7 has available commands.
For example: you can add music on screen 3 by entering:
":add /mnt/home/music" no quotes in the bar at the bottom of the
screen, ":clear" will allow adding music from some other directory,
pressing RS will Shuffle the order the songs are played.

I believe that is the Whisker menu which is specific to xfce - it does not work on LXDE and as far as I can tell nobody has implemented a LXDE equivalent.

#697 Post by pinotte »

Hello Peebee ,
I have installed lxPupTahr - 14.10.1nopae since its release on my computer ( pentium4 3.20ghz 2gb ram) ... recently my computer freeze while I was using a program with wine and I stopped the machine with the button and when I restarted my lxpanel disappeared. I try to do an upgrade with LxPupTahr15.02nopae and it has not worked. I am in live cd . Is there a way to recover lxpanel ?
I hope to make myself understood because I use a translator, I apologize .

Thanks in advance

Hello pinotte

Bit confused as the screenie you've attached is showing the jwm desktop rather than the lxde desktop of lxpup.....

You say you are booting from cd - but don't mention where and in what format your personal savefolder/file is stored?

FIRST ACTION before attempting recovery is to BACKUP your savefolder/file!!

The easiest way to recover would be to start afresh with LxPupTahr-15.05 and create a new savefolder and rebuild your system from there.

If you are using a SAVEFOLDER and you don't want to do this you could try RENAMING the folder /root/.config (a hidden file notice the .config) in the savefolder and rebooting. If this works you could then move back from the old .config any items other than those for lxde - i.e. not
autostart
gtk-2.0
libfm
lx-autostart
lxpanel
lxpanelx
lxterminal
openbox
pcmanfm

Also, you should rename/delete file /root/Choices/ROX-Filer/LxPuppyPin if it exists.

You should also drop out to the console and type: xwin startlxde

If you are using a .2fs/.3fs/.4fs savefile then it would be more complicated.

I've tested upgrading from 14.10 to 15.05 and it proceeds ok apart from a need to fix parcellite in autostart because its been replaced by a different clipboard manager.

Hope you recover.
Cheers

Hello Peebee,

My personal savefolder / file is Stored on sda1 and with puppylxtahr_14,10.sfs and other .sfs files

1) I backed up my files, my bookmarks, etc ...

2) I removed my lxtahrsave.2fs

3) I start afresh with LxPupTahr-10,10,1 and create a new savefolder and rebuild my system from there.

4) I just have to configure programs with my wine, I'm not too comfortable with that, but I'll get there.

The puppy is fine now
Thank you for your info.
