Hi marlowe221,

Check your email first.

The unpacked upgraded kernel consists of two files: vmlinuz and zdrv_tahr_6.0.sfs. You substitute them for the current files of similar names. Although you may have done the upgrade to 6.03, I think your zdrv,,,.sfs still bares the name zdrv_tahr_6.0,2.sfs.

I suggest that you create a folder, perhaps named "old kernel" and move your current zdrv_xxx.sfs and vmlinuz into it --just in case. Then move the new zdrv_xxx.sfs and vmlinuz to the same location as initrd. Rename zdrv_tahr_6.0.sfs to zdrv_tahr_6.0,2.sfs or whatever your old zdrv was named.

OK, that sounds easy enough! I noticed the difference in the names of the sfs files and figured a re-name might be necessary but I wasn't sure and thought it would be a good idea to ask first just in case.

Well, that didn't work sadly.

I get an error about not being able to find "puppy_tahr_6.0.2.sfs" but I don't really understand that. I didn't touch that file; it's still right where it's supposed to be....

The readme has some instruction about a "tail" command which I attempted to run but seems to have no discernible effect. What is that supposed to do???

Suggestion to add to Quickpet->Useful Pets

PupControl-2.6
http://murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?t=61961

Even better make it part of a normal Tahrpup.

SSR now works in My tahrpup (enjoyed Christmas desktop)
This program uses:
Qt 4 for the graphical user interface
libav or ffmpeg (depending on your distribution) for video/audio encoding
elfhacks for hooking system functions for OpenGL recording

PupControl-2.6 installed.I miss videocut icon in the multimedia menu. icon exists in pixmaps. What could i do to get it appearing ?
OK after reboot.
About switching the kernels, there is a special topic about that. Sure it's easy to do... not new.. The last kernel could be not better than older, they do different things.
The kernel should be chosen, regarding your computer and what you do with it. People should study more what is needed by them, to trim the fat instead of adding everything to the Puppy, due lack of time... or knowledge.
how to switch the kernels between puppy versions by jrb.

But I want to boot from HD!

I get it. First install linux with uefi, it install grub2. Then you can modify grub2 like this http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/579574/how-to-install-puppy-linux-frugal-and-configure-grub2-bootloader/.
My problem now is that i don't have interface wlan, and problems with x, can't restart grafical server. I've install tahr 64 and all it's ok (i think por 64b)
From my usb i don't have any problems with tahr 6.02, the portatil is asus k550c. Someboy can tell me why with usb all it's ok and with hd no?.Thanks.

666philb - here are some packages you might be interested in for 6.0.3, whenever it's out. Smile

Parcellite - newer than ClipIt (which was forked from an older version) and doesn't have that annoying popup in the first run -
parcellite-1.1.9.pet
parcellite_NLS-1.1.9.pet

HexChat, a fork of XChat (which hasn't been updated for years) -
hexchat-2.10.2.pet
hexchat_NLS-2.10.2.pet

A smaller and neater DeaDBeeF package, which is placed under /usr and not /opt:
deadbeef-0.6.2.pet
deadbeef_DOC-0.6.2.pet
deadbeef_NLS-6.0.2.pet

cheers Iguleder,

i've gone with hexchat with tahrpup64 and will definitely go with it in the new tahrpup32 iso.

same with deadbeef ... gone with a compiled one rather than the static.

tahrpup initially had parcellite but was swapped for clipit due to it filling up /tmp/xerrs.log with error messages ...i might give it another go

hi augras,

that command works for me in a vanilla tahrpup.... perhaps you've broken something?

Latest update to 6.0.3 says the network icon is being updated and will work again after reboot. It never work again. Regardless how many times I reboot it.

hi sketchman

hmmm two people have had this problem with the tray icon now... we'll be switching to 01mickos version in the next ISO and the next service pack.

for now you could try deleting /usr/bin/network_tray and rebooting... that should hopefully bring the old one back

on second thoughts.. delete it directly. from the savefile or savefolder

666philb - in your next build of tahrpup, add fontconfig-config and switch to Ubuntu's ca-certificates package. woof-CE supports them now.

This should improve font rendering (make them smoother, as in other distros) and make sure your SSL certificates are up-to-date.

PostPosted: Sun 04 Oct 2015, 05:42    Post subject: Tahrpup 6.0.2/3 BUG - unable to handle kernel null pointer

To Barry K and all friends.

Hi,
The Subject above hit me also yesterday 3rd October.
This event occured spontaneously and left me with a
frozen orange Save banner and other unrelated
fault symptoms.

On clicking normal shutdown, a screenful of text and
number strings showed, at the top it said:
BUG unable to handle kernel null pointer.

The fault was only mentioned once, in the murga forum at this page:
http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?t=98582&sid=101dfd5de86991b040103586ca2f6efe

I see it's known about in Ubuntu Launchpad, perpetuated in
several distros, nobody seems to have found what's wrong.

I had no choice but to re-install TahrPup iso to USB stick and start
from scratch.

Please could all your combined thinking powers be brought to bear
to squash this bug once and for all time, before it recurs again.

Thanks in advance & regards.
Rodney.
