Personal Storage problem. Is it thnderbird header/temp files?
I am very inconvenienced by the personal storage. I have repartitioned and reinstalled from backups in order to get back to work ASAP on many instances and still the problem occurs frequently.
I first detected that my Thunderbird personal profile(/root/.Thunderbird/profile) was way too big and moved it outside the puppy save file system but that only helped a little. Whenever I create an email account in Thunderbird and then a long time passes spent on downloading hundreds of thousands of emails, the personal storage strikes again.
Some minutes ago it stated: “personal storage less than 2Mb

hi wert,
use menu>>filesystem>>gdmap point it at /root and see what's taking up the space ... (probably your mail folder) then move it out and symlink it back

Hi! That doesn't solve the problem. Even moving the thundrebird profile out of the save file and then symlinking it back doesn't solve the problem. I have scanned the /opt/libreoffice folder and found it to be the biggest space inconvenience. The /opt/libreoffice4.4/program is a huge pain in the arse because libre doesn't work when that directory is moved and then symlinked back.
For what you are doing.
I would just make Lucid 5.2.8 a full install on the ext3 3.3GB partition.
Full install does not use a save file and just uses what it needs of the free space in the partition.
This will require you do a completely fresh install.
You could change the size of the save file to something bigger.
menu->Utility->Resize Personal Storage File.
I am not so sure 3.3GB is enough room for what you say you are doing.
A Pentium 4 works well with Tahrpup 6.0.2
This version of Puppy offers the use of a save folder, for a frugal install.
It will only be offered if the partition is a Linux format. (Ext 2, 3, or 4)
A save folder has no set size.
It grows as needed, using whatever there is of free space on the partition.
The only problem would be running out of free space in the partition.

The things they do not tell you, are usually the clue to solving the problem.
When I was a kid I wanted to be older.... This is not what I expected

Dude, nice help. I didn't know about tahrpup's existance. I think I'll try that one day. As for the full install, speed is my concern. Frugal is lighting fast compared to full-install. It's actualy of the main reasons I use puppy. Nothing else but speed. Do you tahrpup is worth a try regarding that?bigpup wrote:For what you are doing.

How to relocate Thunderbird profile outside the pupsave file.
It isn't enough to just move the profile and symlink it back.
Editing the content of the profiles.ini file is the key to the fix.

I don't think that really matters but have done soSylvander wrote:How to relocate Thunderbird profile outside the pupsave file.

I'm a former user of Slacko 5.5, 5.6. 5.7, and earlier. I'm now using Tahr Puppy 6.02 in the "Save directory" configuration, and it runs like a scared impala on my 2008 hardware.wert wrote: Dude, nice help. I didn't know about tahrpup's existance. Also good because if you have several computers, you can clone the "save", either as a directory, or as a .2fs file on an NTFS system.
It runs like a weary old eland on my 2003 laptop; no surprise there, but still better than the native XP.
After many moths I finally came to know the culprit
After many months I finally came to know the culprit. Open thunderbird' accoount settings navigate to server settings under your email account and then go to bottom around 'Local directory:'. That's the main problem. Change that to a directory that's outside the save file.
