Allwinner has put a lot of work in designing a book style computer
running remix os and using Allwinner A83T which is 32 bit processor manufactured
in Taiwan using 28 nm process.
In September 2014, Allwinner announced the Allwinner A83T, an octa-core
tablet processor that packs eight highly energy-efficient Cortex-A7 cores
that can run simultaneously at up to around 2.0 GHz. It also includes a
PowerVR GPU. The first tablet with the chip is expected to hit the market in
Q4 2014.[20]

Chrome in other operating systems "should" too... although I've never been able to get Archon to work on my machine.

I like this but I think it still needs a little work. I'd like to wait and see were this will end up.

I notice that the Remix Mini PC will be shipping with Office (or so it
seems), so MS is getting their foot in the door with Remix.
Probably a wise move from JIDE, to cooperate with MS.

Office is available at google play

What's New
• Try the new Word, Excel, and PowerPoint apps! Now available for
Android tablets and phones in the Google Play store. These new apps are
recommended for tablets and phones running Android OS 4.4 and up.

• Office Mobile is not recommended for Android OS 4.4 and up.

The full-featured Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint apps you've been waiting for have landed on Android. They don't have every single feature their desktop counterparts do, but they offer just enough of the right tools that you'd want to use on your phone or tablet's smaller screen. However, some features aren't available with a free account, so if you need more robust tools, you'll need an Office 365 subscription.

Note that while the Office apps offer plenty of editing tools for free, you'll need to sign in with a Microsoft account to use them. And you can unlock extra features, such as tracking changes, with an Office 365 subscription, which starts at $6.99 per month (£7, AU$12) and also gives you full versions of Office apps on PC and other mobile devices. If you happen to have an Android tablet with a screen larger than 10.1 inches, you'll need a subscription to use the apps.

So you may be forced to pay a monthly subscription if JIDE hasn't bought
the rights to distribute. Perhaps JIDE bought the rights for one year,
then the user pays by subscription.

Who in the Puppy community has invested in the Remix Mini crowd funding and is waiting for their delivery?

We know BK has - and I know I have....a Remix Mini (2G) - Early Bird

Perhaps we should form some sort of mutual help group?? Here on the forum - maybe a bit OT? - or "somewhere else"?

Anybody else admit an interest?

Cheers
peebee

'A' type plug will ship first. That means Barry K will have to wait Laughing

SHIPPING

We'll start shipping by early next week. We'll start with a few hundred first and ramp up to thousands shipped every day.

The first to be shipped will be to our US and North American backers. They are also the first plugs (Type A) that we are producing so they'll also be the first ones we ship. Next up will be the EU plugs (Type C) and finally, the UK plugs (Type G).

When your Remix Mini ships, our logistics partner will send you an email along with a tracking number for you to follow your Mini along it's voyage.

Fresh off the assembly lines, your Remix Minis will travel to Hong Kong where they will get on planes and fly into your country. After it passes customs, they'll be expressed to your waiting hands.

Along the way, they'll have to go hundreds or thousands of miles and pass through a couple of customs departments before you'll hear that knock on the door announcing the arrival of your Mini.

It'll be like Christmas in late October/early November!

Thanks again to one and all, and to all a good night! (It's almost midnight here in Beijing)

Australia and China are nearly the same

Quote:
Australia’s plug/socket system is codified as standard AS 3112. Although there are slight differences (the pins of Chinese plugs are 1 mm longer and the sockets are installed with the earth contact facing upwards), the Australian plug mates with the socket used in the People’s Republic of China (mainland China).

I saw @PeeBee's request, yesterday. Not sure why this is raised as I think it obvious to support its use on the LAN we have in our homes; but, "I have too".

On another note, I have reviewed 2 of the 4 available different x86 versions of Chrome OSes (loosely speaking), one of which is our own PUPPY version from @ETP.

My reason for review is something that our world is gravitating to: Constant access to one's data...securely! MUCH progress has occurred over the past 5 years and traffic access in the web has twarted many a prowler seeking to ride a particular wave. Further, it has allowed prowlers to be easily identified, when necessary.

With the ability to gain a signal, wire/wireless/unwired, to one's data we are emerging into a new brand of intelligence. AND, the OS will become less and less important in the eyes of the user while concentration on data access management (conscious AND unconscious) is going to dominate future personal existence.

This is NOT any endorsement of anything. Its a factual.
