How to run Pacman on ArchPup?

#1 Post by steve_s »

I began playing with Archpup 13.2.2 on my multiboot flash and it looks fun, but I can't get pacman up and running.

I don't know how.

Unfortunately all the posts I've seen everyone has been using Arch or Archpup for ever and knows pacman backwards and forwards.

I've used Puppy for a long time and I've done some Gentoo and Ubuntu, but never used pacman, so can't figure out how to get it up and running. :?

I checked out the wiki on pacman but it doesn't really tell you what to do to get running, and I know Puppy has it's own skew so I'm sure there are specifics about getting ArchPup pacman going, I just don't know it.

Would someone post a link or give me a quick run down?

I did run:

Code: Select all

pacman -Syu
but that gave me

Code: Select all

warning: database file for 'core' does not exist
warning: database file for 'extra' does not exist
warning: database file for 'community' does not exist
and a host of other warnings.

I assume I need to update some repository lists or something?

Can someone help this ArchPup noob out? :wink:

archpup was removed for sourceforge by the developer, I did copy as much as I could and placed it on the archive, sadly I was unable to get any info

feel free to try the following:

Yep, we're in a lull right now, but it's supposed to be brutal tonight.

I found ArchPup 13.2.2 at this site. Hope that is what you were asking about.

**Edit: oh, that looks like what ally was saying. But I'm not looking for the iso, I've got that.

My question is about setting up pacman. Anyone have ideas on that?

The things they do not tell you, are usually the clue to solving the problem.
When I was a kid I wanted to be older.... This is not what I expected :shock:

the reason pacman is not working is that the arch repository closed

I mirrored what I could

Yeah, but one should be able to install other Arch packages, right? Hence the formatting of ArchPup, yeah?

Anyway, I've tried a few things so far, specifically adding the core.db, exrta.db, testing.db and community.db to /var/lib/pacmna/sync.

I then added a few mirrors:

Code: Select all

# WARNING! Do not edit this file if you want stable system!
# Server = http://arm.konnichi.com/2013/02/01/$repo/os/$arch
Server = http://il.mirrors.linaxe.net/archlinux/core/os/i686/
Server = http://il.mirrors.linaxe.net/archlinux/community/os/i686/
Server = http://il.mirrors.linaxe.net/archlinux/extra/os/i686/
Server = http://il.mirrors.linaxe.net/archlinux/testing/os/i686/
Server = http://mirror.clarkson.edu/archlinux/core/os/i686/
Server = http://mirror.clarkson.edu/archlinux/community/os/i686/
Server = http://mirror.clarkson.edu/archlinux/extra/os/i686/
Server = http://mirror.clarkson.edu/archlinux/testing/os/i686/
Server = http://mirror.pointysoftware.net/archlinux/core/os/i686/
Server = http://mirror.pointysoftware.net/archlinux/community/os/i686/
Server = http://mirror.pointysoftware.net/archlinux/extra/os/i686/
Server = http://mirror.pointysoftware.net/archlinux/testing/os/i686/
Server = ftp://mirror.csclub.uwaterloo.ca/archlinux/core/os/i686/
Server = ftp://mirror.csclub.uwaterloo.ca/archlinux/testing/os/i686/
Server = ftp://mirror.csclub.uwaterloo.ca/archlinux/community/os/i686/
Server = ftp://mirror.csclub.uwaterloo.ca/archlinux/extra/os/i686/
then running pacman -Syy and pacman -Syu and then running pacman -S abiword to try and install something, but it flashes a bunch of stuff then says it couldn't upgrade any packages and nothing gets installed.

Oh, I backed up my save file first, but nothing has borked so far...

Just updating everyone...

...and feedback is welcome...

:wink:
