An updated "partview" that shows the actual "free" space.

#1 Post by gyro »

I have attached an updated "partview" script that calculates it's free value differently.
"free" is still calculated as "size" - "used", but it uses the size value from the output of "df" instead of the size value from "probepart".
Why? Please see the discussion of sizes etc in this post http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewto ... 1&start=62.

I'm suggesting that both "partview" and "freememapplet_tray" show the actual "free" number.

Edit 19 Oct 2015:
The "partview" version here is consistent with "freemamapplet-2.8.6f". To provide consistency I've now added a "partview_avail.gz" to match "freememapplet-2.8.6".
To obtain the new script, unzip "partview_avail.gz" and then rename it to "partview".
(Sorry, I've been meaning to do this for a while.)

So please use this "partview.gz" and "freememapplet-2.8.6f",
or "partview_avail.gz" and "freememapplet-2.8.6".

Edit2:
Updated "partview_avail.gz" to be based on Tahrpup64 "partview".

You did but I moved it here. I'll put it back if you want, but isn't this the place for it?

Whew, I thought I was losing it.

I put it there because the idea is still experimental, and I tend to think of this area as being more for tried and true.
But by that logic I probably should have put the new freememapplet_tray stuff in "Cutting edge".

I'm happy to leave it here.

How would I use this script if I wanted to try it out (in Slacko)?

Just execute it.
It shows a screen containing a list of partitions with their size and free space.

The current "partview.gz" is consistent with "freemamapplet-2.8.6f".
I've added a "partview_avail.gz" to be consistent with "freememapplet-2.8.6".

See first post for download.
