Quirky April 7.0 - 7.0.3, 7.0.4, 7.0.4.1

Hi,

I need some help editing Quirky 7.0.3. (I have Quirky installed in its own folder in partition 1 as a frugal installation).

I have seen the instructions below:

"You can click on the 'initrd.q' file, which will open it up, and it can then be edited and put together again".

I can get the initrd.q open, of course, as well as the q.sfs by clicking them.

However, when I try to alter the q.sfs it always results in a 'read-only file system' type message so I have not been able to add or remove anything so far. No luck using unsquashfs4 either. ( I have not previously experienced this difficulty with other .sfs files in other Puppies).

I have clearly missed something here. Perhaps someone can enlighten me.

I don't know why you are having that problem. unsquashfs should work.

Hi Barry, There still seem to be 2 issues with Quirky that I cannot seem to shake off...

crond is not persisting across boots?
And I cant seem to compile statically, gcc cannot find libc.a

Ah yes, there was some over-enthusiastic deleting of .a files, to reduce the size of the devx. Fixed.

Zigbert created a new pschedule PET, that will be in next Quirky.
This should have the fix for crond.

crond has to save into /var/local for persistence across boots.
Busybox crond has the -c option to set this.

Quirky does not come with Gparted, so if you want to use that you will have to install it from somewhere else.

GParted is there.

I think that there was one version of Quirky in which GParted got left off the menu.

Normally, it is found in the System menu, however the next release of Quirky will have it in the Filesystem menu (which seems like a better category, also isn't as crowded).

Another "quirk" is that part of the Seamonkey screen black as I was typing now. April has a lot of pizazz and promise.

My guess would be that you have Intel video hardware?

The Intel Xorg driver is really crappy. It is common for it to not render the screen properly, seemingly at random.
In SeaMonkey, scroll up or down and it should go away.

I noticed that the file /usr/sbin/savesession has no the 'export' for momamager.
I added this two lines at 21 and 22

Or, are you saying that the instructions here: http://distro.ibiblio.org/quirky/quirky ... quirky.htm are only for 64-bit and there's a different install method for 32-bit?

I am getting a bit frustrated reading these posts. Maybe the issue is resolved further on in this forum thread.

Anyway, that link, and the one for the 64-bit build, have instructions for installing. There is no need to go hunting all over the place.

EDIT: But it didn't help that I forgot to update the first post of this thread. It was still showing 7.0.3 as the latest. Fixed.

a few things threw up errors related to gdk-pixbuf-xlib-2.0, though one (parcellite 1.19) worked as a deb64. zarfy wouldn't compile because of it, some of the geany plugins gave the error, but i may have introduced that problem--i had gotten further before failing on previous attempts. can't recall the others at the moment.

Stretching my memory a bit, but I think you just make a copy of /usr/lib/pkgconfig/gdk-pixbuf-2.0.pc, name it gdk-pixbuf-xlib-2.0.pc

...I think this is a bug in those packages, gdk-pixbuf-xlib-2.0.pc was in an older version of GTK2.

preparing for the next April :
- why is perl not in devx ? which programs need it ?
- why does pmount need bash ? it should also be able to work with only busybox ash.
- /tmp and /var should be mounted as tmpfs on their own.
- /var/log is mandatory for xorg.
- you can replace udev with busybox mdev, I succeeded.
- rox default config shoud be in /root/.config/rox.sourceforge.net

Note, it it easy to check in Quirky 7.0.3+ what binary executables are internationalized. Look in /usr/share/doc/nls -- I have tried to put all required .pot files in here, does not need the 'devx' pet loaded.

After a first analysis of Quirky 7.0.4 32bit, I noticed that some executables do not have gettext, if this thing can interest you, we have internationalized the following files:

Well, the slackbuild works. This one <-- http://slackbuilds.org/repository/13.37/misc/gcolor2/

The 3 patches apply fairly cleanly (small warnings) but the significant thing is the sed line fixing configure:

Please note, that the actual slackbuild archive seems broken but fortunately you can download each file individually, most importantly the patches and the gcolor2.SlackBuild script. I'm about to report that to the maintainer.

This is the one that has the saved colours which I'm sure is what you were after. Working fine for me in slacko64.

EDIT.. nah bugger it! I'll attach the sources here. Note that the original bzip2 archive was a tad too big for the forum so I compressed with xz and wrapped in gzip. Also attaching the slackbuild with patches as would normally be found at slackbuilds.org
