Vim (full version) installation

#1 Post by Phosis »

This is probably real common sense for most...but my problem was, the built in installation of Vim for the most recent version of Precise Puppy 3.9.11 has a stripped down version of Vim, and I really wanted the full one. I found a few .pet images and things and didn't find one to my liking. The easiest way I found was to simply remove the existing versions of vim through the package manager uninstall feature. Then I just downloaded the tarball of the most recent vim release from www.vim.org, unpacked it, and a ./configure && make && make install later, I have a full functioning version of Vim with help utility intact.

I've been enjoying playing with Puppy, and it is the primary distribution on my laptop at this point, but Ive had to make a lot of changes to get it there. Just some food for thought for anyone else trying to do the same but can't quite find a package that suits their needs.
