LightZone

#1 Post by labbe5 »

Hi,

For photographers, here is a link to deb files for LightZone :

http://download.opensuse.org/repositori ... 2.04/i386/

I tried it. It is working in Precise 5.7.1. A Java-based application, so the OS must haved Java installed.

There is a link to a deb file for Lucid too : http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewto ... 106#714106.

The page is written in french, but you don't need to read french to download the deb files.

The latest LightZone is 4.0 and the deb files too. 5.0 is in the pipeline, and should be available before the year-end.

A personal opinion :
I find that open-source apps for photographers are becoming a real asset for a photographer workflow. Results are impressive. Photoshop is having a hard time justifying its price tag. For the most common needs and tasks, open-source apps are more and more relevant, thanks to the effort and dedication of developers. To name a few : LightZone 4.0, RawTherapee 4.x, Darktable 1.x, Gtkrawgallery, Digikam 3.5 (4.0 expected in April), Gimp 2.8 (with Gmic and Beautify plugins, and scripts packs), Fotoxx and Ufraw (plugin and standalone), Gwenview, Gthumb to manage vast collections of photographs. We generally don't find them in a PPM, but they are available in other OS.
I try to help change this lack of apps for photographers in Puppy by informing other users of available apps, such as LihtZone.

LightZone is professional-level digital darkroom software for Windows, Mac OS X, and Linux, that includes RAW processing and editing. Rather than using layers in the way that other photo editors do, LightZone lets the user build up a stack of tools which can be rearranged, readjusted, turned off and on, and removed from the stack.

Lightzone : People used to photographic can see the complete features using links given by semme.
The step between MTpaint and Gimp is too large. Lightzone is an intermediate product.
