How to connect to 3g internet from TahrPup?

#1 Post by jss83 »

I was using this tutorial to connect to gprs using my nokia phone and bluetooth:

http://www.zrayumtech.com/2012/05/bluet ... linux.html

but when i tried it to connect to 3g using my windows phone and bluetooth it failed, I was able to get the hcitool scan working and got the mac address and the channel number but the script fails to connect to 3g internet. Internet sharing on my windows phone through bluetooth is on btw.

Any help is really appreciated. :(

hi jss83

in the ppm there's a blueman package in the puppy-tahr repo in the network section. (update repos if not there)

it throws an error on startup but still works. pair your phone..then right click on your device and choose 'network access point' . if using Frisbee as your network manager it will automatically connect to bnep0, not sure how puppy's other network managers fair with it
Bionicpup64 built with bionic beaver packages http://murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?t=114311
Xenialpup64, built with xenial xerus packages http://murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?t=107331

Just install the attached package.
Enter just your device like /dev/ttyUSB0 or similar (don't use /dev/ttyS0)
Enter your APN like internet.e-plus.de etc...

Should work out of the box.

If your tahr is tahr64 604 then you'll need the firmware driver sfs which is to find at ibiblio repo for tahr64.

I'm currently first time online using tahr64 and the attached package.

Hope this helps.

It connects through blueman but no site opens up and I think it's due to the error blueman shows:

failed to apply network settings'

This shows up everytime opening blueman.

Sorry, I did not notice that you do connect by bluetooth. Just noticed the title and assumed you wold connect to the internet by GPRS USB Modem like I do.

Probably getting in contact (PM?) to 666philb who is the creator of tahr puppy.

Here is some info about your error and using Blueman.
http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?t=82633
select menu go to setting and select wm switcher, select jwm and press Restart X
This does not apply to you. You are already using JWM.

Keep in mind this info was written to be used in Lucid Puppy.

roxterm is a version of a Linux terminal.
It is not in all versions of Puppy.

In Tahrpup use the console or menu->Utility->URXVT terminal.
