What if you try the middle mouse button to paste, does that work?

edit: I just tried it X-Precise, copies and pastes ok

Clearly whatever you are using it picks up the copy process OK . Once you can do that then right click paste and middle button paste all work as per usual.

The problem here is that the copy function does not pick up the selected text at all. If it did it would appear in glipper or xclipper.

So there is something in the "copy" function it uses that does not work for me in Precise 5.7.1. Working on it just thought you may have encountered it before.

What is X-Precise?

Looks like it may stillbe early days for this one
Version 3.4.12 September 29th, 2015

Fixed some issues with system clipboard
Fixed some issues in Linux with incorrect DPI values
X-Precise does not work with AMD processors it seems . Guess what I have in my Dell Optiplex 745

Once I get something into my clipboard memory area it will paste anything back into the pdf it just wont grab the text or pictures I want from the pdf .

Could you hover over each of the buttons I have circled in this pic and let us know what the tooltip descriptions are for each of these two buttons? Seems that there are different copy modes.

First is select text for editing and the other is select text for copying and pasting

Neither pick up the text

If you use the second one do you see it highlight the text once you have lasooed it?

No , and I don't get a lasso I get a cross and left click and hold gives a dotted box that I can extend right and down from cross or any direction from the cross but it disappears as soon as I let the button go. If I hold button down and click right button the box stays and a choice box pops up of copy or select all. Copy is greyed out and does not work ,select all loses the box entirely.

Interestingly if I insert some text on the page I can copy and paste that as you would expect to do with all . Could it be that the .pdf file is originally created from images and does not load text at all on startup only images . I tried to copy images but that does not work either so perhaps each page is one full image.

Here is one page that I exported into jpg to try and a page in .pdf I hope

If I load one PDF, a ETF (investment fund) PDF I can activate the select (arrow) tool and click on each word. The select text also allows you to select multiple words and copy/paste.

Loading another PDF and the text can't be copied - as that PDF is a image containing both text and images.

So my guess is you've hit upon the cause of your problem.

Master PDF editor is working great for me. I had to extract the SFS to add in revised configuration files so as to disable update checks and change the default font from helvetica to a puppy supported font (and then reform the sfs). The only problems I've had are that the help/contents don't fire anything up, and URL's can't be followed despite providing prompts to do so. Looks like whatever external launcher it might use isn't actually being launched.

Yes, I think you are right - I can copy the text you inserted, but the rest of the text cannot be selected with the text tool although it can be selected as one fullpage block using the arrow tool (far left hand side icon). That original text is not aligned to the page - it is skewed - which suggests it was a scanned image in the first place and accessible as an image only.

If you want to extract that text I think your only choice would be to use something like peasy pdf to extract the desired pages as .jpg or .png images, then supply those images to a good quality OCR utility - but you may need to use a deskew utility first (I found one on this forum recently but can't remember the name at the moment)

OCR is problematic so I wish you luck!

EDIT : One of the deskew tools I was tinkering with was Scan Tailor (mentioned here)

I tried using peasypdf to extract the page you uploaded, then used ScanTailor to deskew it and it did seem to work. I have no idea how well OCR would handle the resulting output but it might get you somewhere closer to your goal.

EDIT 2: A couple of links re deskewing images:

This is a pretty good PDF reader / editor but I notice it opens larger documents quite a bit slower than your standard PDF reader in Puppy. I notice it has a signature option, though I haven't taken the time to figure it out.

That's more for larger organisations, where individuals have secure digital signatures and authors can submit a document for approval or registration usually with limited edit/change options available for others. i.e. a document approver might approve the document by attaching their digital signature.

For a simple signature (name), just create one in a image program and drop (insert image) that at the relevant position.

Attachments are a useful feature, i.e. document a spreadsheet and perhaps include a few charts in the document, and in the attachments include perhaps a spreadsheet of the source data.

I'm getting a small problem again now
When trying to start it it does this

Code: Select all

 ./masterpdfeditor
# ./masterpdfeditor3
./masterpdfeditor3: symbol lookup error: /usr/lib/libQtNetwork.so.4: undefined symbol: _ZN16QIODevicePrivate4peekEPcx
#
[quote]

Now thats a bit weird as this same symbol is also not found by the program So I'm trying to work out whats interfering in the QT library which is loaded by .sfs file?

Thanks. Great.

Loads/works fine under Tahr 6.0.2 (with 6.0.3 update)

The default helvetica font for text throws out a error message, and updates are set to weekly. I extracted the sfs and remade with those set to a more common puppy font (Deja Vu Sans Book) and updates 'never'

Those changes result in a /root/,config/Code Industry/Master PDF Editor.conf content of :

Masterpdfeditor is great for formatting a document. Resize text by dragging, adding circles, freehand ... even including other pdf's/docs as attachments. But lacks a spell check.

Use the method as described here http://murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic. ... 699#879699 and you can concentrate on the words first (in leafpad), spell check those words, then cut/paste into masterpdfeditor to arrange the words as you like.

That's quite a nice way to work. 1. Focus solely upon the words/wording first, 2. Solely focus upon correcting spelling mistakes. 3. Solely focus upon the layout/format of the words. With wysiwyg word processors you tend to do all three simultaneously rather than linearly, and such multi-tasking can lead to document content errors slipping through unnoticed.

I'm no good with double/treble negatives, is master pdfeditor free for use or not under Linux?
You can use Master PDF Editor for free for reading, filling PDF forms and document printing. The only limitation of unregistered version is watermark insertion into saved documents.

Linux version doesn’t not include this limitation and you can use not registered application for free for home use and in non-commercial purposes like education.

Master PDF Editor Forms

#39 Post by rufwoof »

For this you'll need a full Acrobat Reader. I have a sfs stored here that also seems to work OK under tahr 6.0.5
https://drive.google.com/folderview?id= ... sp=sharing

Uncompress the attached test.pdf.gz file, open masterpdfeditor drag that test.pdf file into the masterpdfeditor window (to open it).

That pdf has a test.sh file attached, so open the attachment frame (far left) select the test.sh script, right mouse click and save that to /root. Then make that /root/test.sh script excutable (in rox, right click the test.sh file and select permissions).

That script just runs rxvt i.e. opens a terminal window, however the pdf also has a button where the button is associated to that /root/test.sh script. With the masterpdfedtitor arrow (select) option activated (far left, three rows below the FILE menu option in my installation), click the button and then open the object inspector (far right of screen). You can use the options available in that inspector to do a whole range of things.

If you open that test.pdf with acrobat reader, then you'll be able to click the button and it will open a terminal (rxvt) window.

The above is just a quick intro into how to use forms/form elements within materpdfeditor. You can add images, list boxes ... all sorts of things to make a pdf much more interactive.

Note that if you drag the pdf to firefox then it will (usually) prompt that its disabled forms. Evince also doesn't support forms as far as I am aware. Hence you need a forms supporting pdf viewer (such as acrobat reader) for the forms to work.

i think not-registered-application is a single unit consisting of the application you didn't register. i think you're fine if you're not betraying what's underlined, and i think if you're using the linux version, no one comes to your home to carve a mark of shame into your forehead.

this is my understanding of it. i think you're okay. the mark thing's the only drawback, and you're exempt from suffering if you're with the penguin.
