666philb,

01micko has been doing some work on getting 3G modems working in Slacko.

Not sure if this is also a problem in Tahrpup, but it did generate a change to Woof CE.
Look here and the posts around this one.

Hello,
Thanks mikeslr and 666philb for your interest.
Iknow gftp. But the question is not really filezilla or gft but for a LTS OS (60 months), only after 20 months we are with the glibc19 and no update ! It's not about you work 666philb, very good work again, but about ubuntu : what LTS means for them ? In 40 months we will be with the softwares of today ?
Filezilla is just an example. Today i found a filezilla 10 that run with trusty and in 2019 i will be with the same with the ubuntu's politic : they say LTS... but with no updates, just security updates i hope.
About filezilla, if the problem is just with the theme, i think they must more think before go !

PostPosted: Mon 04 Jan 2016, 19:34    Post subject:  flowblade Video Editor SFS

Tahr 6.0.5 32bit pae (I have kernel 4.3.2 installed so hopefully that doesn't make a difference) flowblade video editor sfs https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B4MbXu8cvE_WX2MtNWt6c2ozRlk/view?usp=sharing version 0.18 (25MB sfs filesize (gzip -9 used as the sfs compression choice)).

Load the sfs and its a menu option under MultiMedia.

I run at 1024x768 which is too small for flowblade, but overdriving to 1152x864 and flowblade starts up and appears to work ok.

Has a nice option where if you drop a video onto a track you can then right click and separate out the audio track from that.

More options than OpenShot.

sneekylinux did a video about flowblade a few years ago here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hw_dsAcerFE

If OK perhaps one to add to QuickPet, Video section

ISO (352MB) https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B4MbXu8cvE_WZVlBNlBmSXVZaVk/view?usp=sharing for :

Tahr 6.0.5 pae (32 bit)
With 4.3.2 kernel
http://murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?p=876807#876807
that utilises LZ4 compression (initrd.lz4, puppy and zdrv sfs's lz4 compressed).

Basically standard Tahr 6.0.5 with a later kernel, lz4 (and lzop) added to /bin and mksquashfs/unsquashfs versions that support lz4 (and lzop). I've tweaked remasterpup2 manually to (hopefully) remaster using lz4 compression, but haven't tested that it works correctly.

The later kernel is required as the standard Tahr 6.0.5 kernel wasn't compiled with lz4 support.

If compiling then use the devx for Tahr 6.0.5 and the 4.3.2 kernel sources sfs as per Stemsee's posting linked to above

Generally - as a guide lz4 compression isn't as tight as gzip/xz, around 1.5 to 2 times bigger for large files, but decompresses a lot quicker, around 4 to 6 times quicker than gzip/xz .... type benefit i.e. overall net benefit.

I think this a derivative ISO and belongs to its own thread in the relevant section.
Please consider moving it there (and maybe add a link here)

PostPosted: Thu 07 Jan 2016, 10:50    Post subject:  Tahr floppy boot

Menu, Setup, Wakepup Create Boot Floppy doesn't have the required DOS image and prompts for a pet that isn't in PPM

Needs this floppy image https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B4MbXu8cvE_WVVZJNXVLYlVVbzg/view?usp=sharing that can be written to a floppy using something like

dd if=wkpup2x-02.img of=/dev/sdc

...at least in my case for a external floppy connected to the PC via USB, others might have to use perhaps /dev/fd0 as the out-file (of= value) i.e. internal floppy drive.

I used a USB-HDD and whatever the puppy is installed onto has to be vfat partition for the floppy based boot to work correctly. I created a fat32 partition on that USB-HDD, formatted it and set the boot flag on (don't know whether that's actually needed) ... and then copied initrd.gz, vmlinuz, puppy_tahr_6.0.5.sfs and zdrv_tahr_6.0.5.sfs into that partition. You also have to create a USBFLASH file

echo >USBFLASH

as that's used as a flag file when searching during bootup.

Set BIOS to boot first using floppy or removable and reboot .... FDOS loads and installs drivers, locates the USB (USB 2.0 port in my case) containing puppy and fires it up (boots to puppy desktop).

Compressed the img file is 136KB, so that might either be included in Tahr rather than having to maintain it in PPM. The wake menu option also needs to be modified to not leave unfamiliar users hanging/confused. One of the greatest hurdles for potential new puppy users is getting puppy running in the first place and the more (working) options available for them to achieve that the better.

666philb,

Something 01micko developed you may want to put into Tahrpup.

pgprs2 - connect by old cell phone or 3G modem

Just a question. Is there any way to make usable bitmapped fonts for the windows, tray, menu? Like Helvetica in Lucid 5.2.8? Seems they are available in here - /usr/share/X11/fonts/misc/helvR12-ISO8859-1.pcf. I tried to copy them to /usr/share/fonts/default, than ran fc-cache with restarting X , but it doesn't help.

Thanks for any advice.

Is there any special driver for:
Leadtek Winfast PX6600TD graphics card?
Simple, one display setup works okay-ish with noveau (it has nVidia GeForce6600 chip)
(card is preinstalled in Fujitsu-Siemens Scaleo-E desktop PC)

I think,
Linux Display Driver - x86 Version: 304.131
Then again, in win32(downgraded to XP-Pro), the nVidia 304.* did not work, and Leadtek driver did.. Rolling Eyes
For all I know, Leadtek has no official linux drivers to download
Probably nVidia gives better fps with 3D, but no multidisplay with SCART...

Will report back if I know any better

Edit: scrolling through the pages..

also how do you load mods into cube2 engine ? http://tesseract.gg/forum/viewtopic.php?id=259

I don't, it is only a bare minimal setup to display stuff from MM3D

From http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814122237 and http://www.nvidia.co.uk/download/driverResults.aspx/95177/en-uk It does look like the 304.131

The way I got my (different) nvidia working was to download the nvidia-glx-xxxxxxxx pet http://distro.ibiblio.org/puppylinux/pet_packages-tahr/ and boot

pfix=nox nouveau.modeset=0

loaded the nvidia pet using petget <pet filename>, before running xorgwizard.

666philb,

Something you may want to know about a program that is in Tahrpup 6.0.5

menu->Internet->PMirrorget

Using this program got this person TOS'sed from a Website
Read here his story:
http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?t=102152

i actually use PMirrorget quite a lot .... grabbing all .debs from a PPA for example.
i've added a warning that some sites may not like it
