#1 Post by Zepinto »

I downloaded the outdated tibia dotpup on dotpup.de, installed, and tried to open it...
No success....
I just get no response from the computer....
Then i tried the last Linux version, on tibia.com website....
Same thing.....
Then i tried to download the windows version and run it with wine....
Many errors...

Pleeeeaaasseee anyone help me?!?!

I really miss a good mmorpg game, not that i like tibia, but i would play anything right now, i just love online games........

Thanks!!

Have you tried Planeshift? It works in Puppy if you have drivers for your graphics card installed, and maybe SDL. It's only version 0.3.17, so not a lot is implemented, but it looks pretty cool so far, especially when your graphics aren't being glitchy and the weather decides to snow.

There is a text-only version of BYOND that runs in Linux. If you try playing a graphical game, the tiles show up as letters, so depending on the game you might still be able to run around or do mindless leveling.

Battle for Wesnoth runs in Puppy. I haven't tried going online with it but it should work.

If all else fails, you can play RuneScape if you have Java installed.

And that's about as far as my online gaming knowledge goes.

Always had problems with browser games, maybe because of my low ram (88MB...)...
I was thinking about tibia because its a standalone client game thats always said to be a light game....
Well....
Whats this Battle for Wesnoth?!
Thanks!!

It's a turn-based medieval strategy game with Windows and Linux versions (maybe Mac too).

Tibia looks interesting, maybe I'll take a swing at getting it running. My schedule isn't very predictable right now though.

Okay, I figured I'd start with the dotpup here:
http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewto ... 5202#31591

It still didn't work with the tk package installed. Starting from the commandline it said:

Code: Select all

sh-3.00# ./run-tibia
./tibiawish: error while loading shared libraries: libstdc++-libc6.2-2.so.3: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
So, I made a symlink like so:

Code: Select all

 ln -s /usr/lib/libstdc++.so /usr/lib/libstdc++-libc6.2-2.so.3
and it worked.

EDIT: Stupid me. Several posts down from the one I linked to already took care of this.

Looks like graphics issues. Do you have DRI installed for your graphics card? I thought I saw that as a requirement when I scanned the site yesterday. MU's 3DCC is the app to use unless you have nVidia. I'll try the new one tonight.

The different versions are for if Puppy only included libc 5 or 6. It has both, so either should work. At least as far as libc is concerned.

With my graphics card stuff installed and opengl support, the login screen pops up fine with the libc-6 version. I don't have an account, so I don't know if it continues to work. I'll reboot later and try it without the graphics stuff to verify if that's the problem.

I don't get it....

Installed Mark's 3DCC, when i open the DRI thingy, thats what it shows:
"Your /var/log/Xorg.0.log reports you have this card:

(--) PCI:*(1:0:0) Trident Microsystems CyberBlade/i7 rev 93, Mem @ 0x40000000/23, 0x41000000/17, 0x40800000/23

Your current Xserver uses this standard-driver:
trident

DRI IS active."

So DRI IS active.....
But, when i open the 3D demo:

"-----------------------------------------------------------------
DRI-Status: DRI is NOT active, the demo should run slow (< 10 fps)
-----------------------------------------------------------------"

WTH?!?!

Sometimes my computer piss me off...

<edit>As the 3DCC doesn't have a "trident" option, i can't seem to activate DRI...</edit>
Thanks,
Daniel

I updated the 3DCC now (210 and 212), it should report more reliable now if DRI is active or not.
Accelleration for Trident cards are not supported by Kernel 2.6 it seems.

you could try Puppy 1.08 or 1.09 CE.
It uses Kernel 2.4.
I think there was posted a Trident driver once, but I don't remember if it worked - at least there was some trouble.
You might search the forum first.

I still use Puppy 108 to play Doom4, as my Ati-drivers crash in Puppy 2.x with this game.

But 8 MB video-memory are usually not sufficient for 3D-accelleration anyway.

If possible, buy a Nvidia-card, they are the best solution for Puppy-gamers, even some cheap old ones.

In which country do you live?
To know that might enhance the chance to get one, as sending it oversea can be quite expensive.

Maybe I have a Ati Radeon 7000 for you.

Please open your computer, and look, if you have a AGP-slot.
It is a slot, that looks different than the others, like on this picture:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:AGP_slot.jpg

But attention, there are different versions of this slot.

On the picture above, the slot has only one "nipple" in the middle.

But the Radeon needs 2 such nipples, as it looks like this:
http://www.ertyu.org/steven_nikkel/images/agpuniv.jpg

This picture shows different cards, mine looks like the one at RIGHT:
http://www.playtool.com/pages/agpcompat ... eslots.jpg

If your slot has 2 nipples, the Ati-card should work.
It is a "small" model, but I could play Doomsday very fine on a Pentium 800, so several games will work ok.

Send me your adress as personal message, if it matches in your computer.

Oh... and I can tell you: brazilian people laugh more often than germans do.

Sadly, it's truth. But not just the presence of money corrupts the emotions, the blind seek for it does it too. That's what happens in Brasil....
