You can't create an .iso for an audio CD, as an audio CD doesn't contain a filesystem.
Normally you would use bin and cue files to create audio CDs.

I was really hoping to get an exact copy since it is already in the cd dstabase. I have also noticed that Pcd doesn't recognize the cd text on the master however VLC does. I am wondering if perhaps K3b might do an exact copy?

After extensive research it appears that I can only do this with Nero. I think my best bet at this point is to remaster the album and re-submit it to all the databases.
I may make one last attempt to boot the old win machine and see if I can save it as an iso from there. it is (in theory) possible to do this with the original program.
Next step is the lightscribe label.

Hi Zigbert - I am having a problem trying to copy an audio CD "on-the-fly" from my laptops inbuilt drive (SR0) to an external usb drive (SR1). It looks as if pBurn should handle this but unfortunately it fails.

Hi Don - is there any reason why you would not do an on-the-fly copy? Pburn offers the option and I suspect that modern hardware has sufficient processing power and I/O throughput to make it successful (in theory anyway).don570 wrote:I would never try what you have done.

The devices are not sharing a common IDE bus so I suspect that there should be no choke point other than cpu and ram?
I used to do this probably 10 years ago on a Windows box so if it can be made functional on Linux I am keen to give it a go.
The error message I am seeing makes it seem like a configuration / scripting problem rather than a real failure or bandwidth issue of some kind.

The output of mkisofs can also be piped to cdrecord to burn "on the fly". This means that there is no actual iso image generated, but that the iso being created is written directly to CD.
Advantages:
Faster (for a single burn) ~ mkisofs writes it's images faster than cdrecord can burn, meaning the only time taken is the time it takes to burn, and not write an image and then burn.
Saves temporary space. If you have 650MB's of data waiting to be burned, and ISO image will also require 650MB's, meaning you have to have that amount of free space to burn.
Disadvantages:
buffering an image and burning is more intensive than just burning itself. This can lead to buffer-underruns meaning a coaster instead of a nice new CD.
CDRECORD has the ability to
burn the whole audio CD as one file or each song individually,
but it expects the song to be available as a file on your hard disk.

A: This has not been tested very well, so caveat emptor. It is possible to use cdda2wav and cdrecord with pipes, but there are several issues.
The cd drive may become too slow to keep cdrecords buffer happy, when a scratch on the audio cd is encountered, and several retries take place.
Currently there is no way to carry individual track information from cdda2wav to cdrecord. Several information bits are available very late but are needed in advance from cdrecord.
Some operating systems have limitations in multiple SCSI accesses and other ressources (shared memory). cdda2wav and cdrecord may block each other, or might fight over limited ressources.
For these reasons it is not recommended to burn on-the-fly with cdda2wav.
The command is built in /usr/local/pburn/func_build_command, line 70.

One suggestion is to set "-speed=nn" of the output drive to a lower speed than that of the input drive.

I think I'm almost there now - it seems that the space needs to be removed from before -useinfo.
I just burnt a CD with the following modification to the burn line:
- I changed dev=/dev/sr1 to dev=6,0,0
- Removed the space between the backslash and -useinfo.
The CD seems to be working but I haven't listened all the way through every track yet. The terminal output suggests that the buffers ran down to zero quite a bit so there may be defects. I need to add the speed spec back in for next trials.

Tried it again with speed=2 and it did seem to improve the buffer fill situation ("cdrecord: fifo was 0 times empty") as follows:
I am not sure if the speed specification actually worked as expected though as it still shows "Average write speed 10.0x."
Don't really understand that.

Just to be clear, the last line of the script is a continuation of the second-last line. Remove the back-slash.
I suspect that the burn speed should be a little slower than the read speed. Making it a lot slower may cause other problems. Unlike many Puppy users, I rarely set a burn speed - I let the drive pick its own.
There are good reasons why on-the-fly cloning is not recommended.

PBurn - problems with Copy/Shrink Video DVD option
I am using
(a) tahrpup 6.02.
(b) pBurn 4.3.16
I am trying to copy a DVD video.
I can successfully use the "Burn Video" option and create a working DVD - but I cannot get the "Copy/Shrink Video DVD" option to work. I confess I might not understand how to use it - but have tried my best by reading the help.
Can someone please help explain:
(a) when it is appropriate to use this option
(b) how it differs from the "Burn Video" option
(c) how to correctly use it
(d) why my jobs are failing.

I am using temporary storage on a USB connected NTFS formatted drive.
If I choose the first option ie "Copy the complete DVD" - it fails trying to write the file into temporary storage:

If I choose the second option ie "Copy only the movie" - in the 'exec_preburn' function:

How to covert pBurn 4.3.16 to a .deb-file
Hi, after not being able to write or rewrite ANY cd,s or dvd,s at all in my Sun Ultra 40-machine with Linux Mint,Debian or Open Suse I tried to dio it with Slacko and succeded!!!
8 times without a flaw, using the same dvd,s and cd,s I couldnt use in K3b, Brasero xfburn etc.
pBurn worked!!!

Or can I somehow convert the .pet file to a .deb file?

ONE dvd was burned OK with flburn. An ISO.
Then I tried to burn mp3;s to two kind of cd-r,s TDK and a cheaper variant.
7 times I tried again to no avail.
The dvd-drive is newly bought on ebay(when I suddenly couldnt burn anymore, about two months ago I bought a refurbished one cause I thought the old one had died).
The cable (pata) is new.
Can it really be something on the mainboard that broke?
It used to work like a charm with different operating systems.
Ideas?
