CD eject problem

#321 Post by peebee »

Billtoo wrote:There is a problem, ejecting a disk from sr0 doesn't work, get an i/o error window.
Hi Billtoo

Interesting that you're the first person to raise this problem after all this time :? but checking, it also exists in LxPup-15.11 (but not in LxPupTahr-15.12 nor LxPupXenial-16.06) ....

So it isn't an LxPupSc problem, but it is a pcmanfm / slackware problem.

The workaround is to use pmount (Filesystem -> Pmount) and click on the little down arrow next to sr0 and select "Eject disk"

The problem is that pcmanfm is not giving any meaningful error messages to indicate where the the problem is (that I can see) and googling doesn't come up with any clues either (yet).

It may be a missing gvfs function....maybe!

I've added it to the problems in post #2

I'll persevere - unless anyone else can shed light?
Thanks

Manual frugal install to usual core 2 duo laptop. Normal boot, savefile created and used ok, adrive and light ok, my sed utility to add ignore=usb to the init script works ok.

-Computer-
Processor : 2x Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo CPU P8600 @ 2.40GHz
Memory : 2015MB (555MB used)
Machine Type : Physical machine
Operating System : LxPup-Sc - 16.06.103
User Name : root (root)
Date/Time : Mon 20 Jun 2016 08:20:08 AM CDT
-Display-
Resolution : 1280x800 pixels
X11 Vendor : The X.Org Foundation
OpenGL Renderer : Mesa DRI Mobile Intel® GM45 Express Chipset x86/MMX/SSE2
Version : 2.1 Mesa 11.2.2
Direct Rendering : Yes

In the process of chasing the non-eject bug (I'd always just used the physical button), I tried 'opening to view files' on the main SFS from LxPupXenial and another pup. The usual singleclick to get the view only nagbox etc. They do not open, time out non-destructively. Worked ok in the last non -R version. lx-rightclicks installed as usual.

Does pMusic play a CD for you on this version or on the last non -R version? pCD does on my hardware as does GNOME MPlayer but pMusic gives me an aplay: playback:2780: read error. The default 'Hoovers' source plays ok.
Pups currently in kennel :D Older LxPupSc and X-slacko-4.4 for my users; LxPupSc, LxPupSc64 and upupEF for me. All good pups indeed, and all running savefiles for look'n'feel only. Browsers, etc. solely from SFS.

Delta 3

#325 Post by Rodney Byne »

Hi,

Delta 3 iso upgrade ran ok, so the resultant 16.06.3
was installed to an Emtec 8Gb flash stick using
Universal USB Installer (UUI) from within Win7.

This is fine, although I feel a Barry K's downloaded
quirky-style Service Pack would make more sense
for updating, while the earlier version is left running in-situ.
Then the SP can be clicked on to upgrade to the next level.
This would save starting & configuring everything again from scratch.

The host laptop is an elderly Advent Modena M201 which
boots up the stick.
No problem with DVD launching.
Insert to sr0 tray and it pulls up via Mplayer automatically.

Example opening screenshot courtesy of David Attenborough
Wildlife Collection below.
Regards.

Hi Marv

This problem in LxPupSc-16.06.103-R is now fixed - the iso and delta both re-uploaded to SourceForge

md5 of new iso is 1459c770f328e70c45186a010ee4784d

slackware-current as of Mon Jun 20 21:39:07 UTC 2016

Got it, thanks. Delta applied md5sum correct, install updated, now opens the SFS correctly. I use that quite a lot I guess :)
Continuing to fiddle a bit with the CD non-eject. Is it possible that on hotplug the udevd rules are locking the CD? I noted that if the CD is present at boot it can be ejected normally in pcmanfm or from the device on desktop. Insert when system is up and it can't though the eject button in pMusic or eject from terminal works fine.

Marv and peebee, I had the same cd eject issue with X-slacko. Go to /lib/udev/rules.d/60-cdrom_id.rules and change line 16 from

IMPORT{program}="cdrom_id --lock-media $devnode" to

IMPORT{program}="cdrom_id $devnode"

Worked for me.

Edit: You might have to reboot or run "udevadm control --reload"

16.06.203-R

#331 Post by Marv »

16.06.103-R_16.06.203-R delta downloaded and applied. md5sum of the 203-R iso generated is correct. Manual frugal install on core 2 duo laptop updated. Eject of CD and DVD now working correctly. DVD plays well using the default gnome-mplayer, pmusic still giving me aplay errors on the CD. Haven't chased that down yet. pCD also tried for CDs and that works well as does the static Deadbeef pet from the second link here: http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewto ... 627#885627 . For some reason (on this hardware?) gnome-mplayer is great for DVDs but quite choppy on CDs.

Thanks,

You should be able to eliminate ddcprobe from the specs now

Dammit! Not fixed. See the commit log for the fix.

I kinda like 'Light'. You know you can easily add the puppy generic home page - I tested it and it works. See the 'mozilla-firefox' woof template for a clue

I kinda like 'Light'.
iso (and 2 -> 3 delta) re-uploaded with pupcamera fix

also - can rename previous iso to 3a and apply 3a -> 3 delta

I also think Light is pretty good as the default shipped browser.... :) especially as an adrv as you can then very easily switch to an alternative

Peebee,

I was searching the 'net for the "warning hardlink count is wrong" error
that I told you about earlier. I found one recent message on
another forum that said to run fsck and see if that fixed the problem.

On Lspupsc 16.06.3, I tried booting with puppy pfix=ram, fsck.
That returned the error "... sfs not found..."
puppy pfix=nox returned the same error message.

On the hardlink count error msg, I now realize that find / -iname Xorg.0.log
found the /var... one correctly, but it also found one in /initrd/pup_rw/... .
That one should have been deleted in the boot init script probably after chroot.
All the just created temp. files and directories that are not needed after
chroot should be deleted.

I really like the fonts in terminal mode. They seem clearer and sharper
than other puppy iso's.

Hi wyzguy

01micko provided a link for the hard link count issue

pfix=nox and pfix=ram work fine on my manual frugal install - how are you installed and booting??

These sound like woof-ce issues - the place to raise them is the woof-ce rationalise branch on github....

You should not use "/" to find the Xorg log. The Xorg log is consistently found in /var/log.. I always find it there in any distro I try.

Also, I think the /initrd/pup_rw dir is the savefile..

Future of LxPupSc

#339 Post by peebee »

Slackware-14.2 has been released.....

01Micko has started work on the official 14.2 versions of slacko.....

so the future of LxPupSc is "under review" - at the very least it should have a name change and should move to being compatible with slacko-14.2 as this becomes available.

Meanwhile, it is acting as a testbed for the new rationalise branch of woof-ce being constructed by @jlst

LxPupSc-16.07.1-pae.iso {devx} {kernel 4.6.3-lxpup sources}
