Thanks peebee - that did the trick... much better.

Another small oddity - installed Wbar from Menu>Desktop>Change Appearance>Options, and it's (rox) File Manager icon is opening PCManFM instead. "rox" in lxterminal is doing the same thing. Not sure if it's Wbar related or not, I'll have to re-boot to pristine and see.

The more I dig, I find myself chuckling out loud at all of the neat little details and overall "completeness" of this Pup... such nice work!

This is how I've chosen to tackle Puppy's close reliance on rox-filer....these days it should probably be defaultfilemanager in most scripts - but there's a lot to change - and unfortunately the cli switches are not 100% the same for different file managers....

so if you really want rox-filer in wbar you should use Rox

FWIW - All three tools for wireless connection (SNS, Frisbee and Network Wizard) have worked perfectly on my home WPA-encrypted network, using a USB WiFi dongle.

LxPup is based on slackopup which is built from Slackware 14.1 components

LxPupTahr is based on tahrpup which is built from Ubuntu Trusty Tahr components

So the main difference is the different repositories where additional applications can be obtained.

There are also differences in the applications built-in - notably the web browser which is Firefox ESR for LxPup and Palemoon for LxPupTahr

LxPup has had 3 updates since its first appearance in November - hence is now at 15.11.4

LxPupTahr has not been updated since December - hence is still at 15.12.1 (however it does have tahrpup's excellent incremental update mechanism)

The devx's for both are in the post's linked to the 1st post of this thread.

You can only choose 1 "latest" download on Sourceforge per project....

p.s. if you're looking for "cutting edge" then LxPupSc (Slackware Current based) and LxPupXenial (Ubuntu Xenial Xerus based) are more experimental.

I just got around to setting up my networked HP4500 printer in LxPupXenial 16.05.1. Unlike when last I set it up in LxPupSC, no patches or additional libs required at all. Just install the hplip_print-3.14.10 pet and go. And this with CUPS 2.1.3

Not a surprise. Tahrpup/Xenialpup still contain these slightly older libs that have now disappeared from the Slackware spins.

I don't know if they are coming from the upstream Ubuntu packages or if Phil has added them.

One of them is the Keyboard Layout switcher/handler), which won't show in any LXPup the appropriate flags in the panel (shows only a blank frame). Do you please know a solution?

You didn't say which "flavour" and version of LxPup you are running??

Not sure what to advise here....Puppy keyboard layouts are controlled through:
Setup -> Quicksetup First Run Settings

and this won't / doesn't integrate with the LxPanelX tools....although it might be possible to make them I guess....would need further investigation!

This discussion seems potentially useful....

The flags are all present at:
/usr/share/lxpanelx/images/xkb-flags (for LxPup-15.11)

Can you describe why you want the flag showing? Do you swap keyboard layouts frequently??

Here is a small fix pet for Slacko/Slackware flavours of LxPup only to make PCManFM eject CDs/DVDs on unmount.....

Just a note. I've been using this LxPupXenial for a while now (Drive icons on desktop option installed) with lots and lots of CD, DVD, USB flashdrive and SDD partition mounts and unmounts. No issues at all of the sort reported in XenialPup with the mount/unmount button/tab/thingie showing or not showing on the drive icon etc. Just works. Shows up on plug, mounts and unmounts or ejects. Plays CDs with pCD and DVDs with gnome-mplayer on insertion if set up that way.

EDIT: I did have a few problems, get the i/o error window when trying to eject sr0.
Installing pets on a fresh install will lock the pc up, after doing a hard poweroff it won't go back to the desktop on reboot so deleted save file and started over.
Installed the devx and compiled some apps, vlc ran but jerky when playing a DVD movie (works perfect on slacko-6.3.2), ejects the DVD too.
I did a frugal install on 2 computers and get the same results on both,one was on a usb-3.0 SSD plugged into a usb.2.0 port, the other was a usb-3.0 hard drive plugged into a usb-3.0 port.

EDIT2: The problem was caused by one particular pet (I think) so I'm going to start over again.

Downloaded, used to update manual frugal install on all intel core 2 duo iwlwifi i915 laptop. Savefile cleaned and checked, renamed to lxxenial-xxxx.2fs to match new DISTRO_SPECS prefix. No hitches expected, none found yet. No errors wrt the intel i915 or drm in dmesg, glxgears FPS remains best of all pups on this laptop. Briefly played and ejected a couple of CDs and DVDs, Palemoon seems just fine to me (I symlink to external profile as usual and haven't felt any need to load the chromium SFS on this pup). I haven't checked SNS, Frisbee, Dougal connection on this newest as I am now using PWF 4.1 across the board -- all pups, all machines. Other than hplip_print for my HP4500 printer the only things not in the iso I felt compelled to add for daily use are uextract 3.2.4 and PWF 4.1.
