I'll try the site on your link. Thanks for trying the ntfs thing though it looks from your result that it was not this that caused my problem. Can I ask if it is possible to make a version of wine for this version of fdarm. I looked at the package manager but did not find it. I just don't know enough to know how much work there would be in doing this. If is too much please forget I asked.

Regards,

Ken.

There is a commercial program 25 EUROS that is supposed to run on raspberry pi Raspian operating system
https://eltechs.com/product/exagear-des ... nd-prices/

Then you can run wine but the results are poor

Thanks for your reply. I'll follow the link and may try it. I'll report back. I only need wine to run two programs to do with a hobby of vintage electronics. One is a valve (tube) database. I runs well on wine.

Thanks again,

Ken.

Just read the information in the link. As you say the results don't look good and so I don't think I'll bother. It's a pity though.

Ken.

can someone comment on the speed difference of this to raspian or ubuntu-mate for RP2?

On my RP2 with u-mate was barely useable...

I think the best advice would be to try it. I have had my RPi2 for a short while but have tried the same OSs as you plus Openelec (Kodi). I have found overclocking did help a bit but probably the greatest effect was using a good faster SD card. I bought a 32MB class 10 48MB/s sd card from the net for about £7. I have all three of the above OS on it and multboot with berryboot. I have used puppy Linux for a while on an old laptop (800MHz 320MB) and it works fine. It would not run XP. I am keen to get this version to work on the RPi2 as I like it and I suspect it will run faster than anything else. Hope this helps. Perhaps others with more experience will be able to give you more detailed advice.

Regards,

Ken.

Here's a fast download site for Wheezy Raspian.

There isn't much difference with Fatdog Arm if the apps are similar.

Tip: You mustn't put

Code: Select all

net=wired:eth0:dhcp
in cmdline.txt if you haven't connected your board to a router or another computer.
The booting procedure will just stall.

I made a new package ----> fatdogarm-05-09-2016.zip
See first post for installation instructions.
There are several improvements.

1.) Removed net=wired:eth0:dhcp from cmdline.txt since this would
halt the booting of board if ethernet cable wasn't plugged into router.

2) updated mtpaint and fatdog_connect.sh

3) image info right click added

4) viewnior right click

5) Save file increased to 1.5 gigabyte. This should be enough to do some
compiling.

6) zip package simplified. Just open the zip package and
drag the files and one folder to a freshly formatted micro sd card

dualboot possible?

#30 Post by shadow of viper` »

Hi don570

Thanks for your work and the clear instructions.

I currently have raspbian installed on my raspberrypi2, setup to boot directly into kodi. I also have other daemons running on it.

Since the Raspbian install is working very well for me, i am hesitating a little to modify anything on it. The pi is connected to the network with a cheap USB WiFi dongle that uses the realtek rtl8188eus driver. I found a precompiled binary on the raspberry forums which is working well.

I read on some other forums that BerryBoot can be used to for dual booting on the pi
Will do some more research but would like to know if you already are aware of that possibility

Even if i cannot set up the the dual boot, i will backup the sd card partitions and will try a fresh install of Fatdog ARM over the weekend

Thanks again

Cheers!

I use berryboot to compare the various distros. It saves having to have a
lot of SD card on hand.

It should be possible to make a berryboot package for fatdog arm
but nobody has gotten around to it.

don570,
I have recently purchased a pi3, so keen to try armdog!

I followed your instructions on page 1. Created a fat32 partition on my 16GB SD card, starting at 8MB, then copied all the files onto it.

But it won't boot. I just get a big rectangle with rainbow colours in it, and another small rectangle at top right. Then nothing happens.

the rainbow top right is an insufficient power warning

https://www.raspberrypi.org/forums/view ... hp?t=82373

iirc a 2A power source is recommended for the pi3

:)

I also own a pi2, so obvious thing is to try that, and yes, it boots!

So, something needs to be changed for the pi3.

Thanks for that info. Yes, I only have a 1A supply.

Ubuntu-Mate still ran, despite the under-voltage.

I use a 2.1A tablet charger and haven't had any under-power issues on my days old RaspberryPi3 currently doing a looped playback on mine to see if it will break before 30 day full refund window (shipping box was very abused )
Yet to try the Fatdog version but a up-todate full 64bit puppy version would be great. hint-hint

a big rectangle with rainbow colours in it
Quite a bit of discussion about non-booting RPi-3, not necessarily a power issue. Detailed discussion is out of my range but seems some mods are need to the SW and multiple attempts to boot.

Incidentally, my early Berryboot with Puppyalpha4 still runs fantastically well on B+. Just wondering whether BK could port that over to the RPi -3 64bit ARM iteration? [-and, separately as a single .img, the Zero].

For a power supply to my raspberry pi2 board I use a modified tablet power supply.

I cut off the barrel plug and substituted a micro USB plug.
I checked for 5v with a voltage meter.

I was able to make a second card work with omxplayer
so it's looking good. Bad news I broke my mouse somehow.

I thought berryboot kernel would work with rpi3??

Discarded Cisco switched mode PSU from a Virgin (Sky?) box will supply 5V @ 3A. Should be sufficient to run plenty of peripherals, probably including a bank of analogue converters and relays for projects.

Don't think the ARM6/7/9/11 architectures are compatible apart from being 32 or 64bit? BK will know.
