Edit, Aug 11, 2016, 22:14, EDT:
For the record, the initial pupjibaro-jessie beta by josejp2424, with kernel 3.18.22
and the PPM2, is still available here.

Edit, Aug. 15, 2016, 17:30, EDT:
Success, finally! Thanks to jlst's and 666philb's suggestions.
Some screen caps, starting here.

Hello, all!

As the title says, I finally managed to get the woof-CE to output a Puduan-6.0.0
Puppythat loads all the way to the initial black console.

I need guidance to get Xorg to work. Thanks in advance.

Neither xwin nor xorgwizard do anything at the moment. However, the ati, radeon,
and nouveau drivers (and a few more) are in directory /usr/lib/xorg/modules/drivers.

I've attached below a hardinfo summary for the box I'm working on. If you need
more info, just ask.

Again, many thanks in advance.

Thanks, ally.

If nobody else answers, I guess I'll have to install "screen" instead. :( :lol:
And make that one a "no X" Puppy. (Just joking!)

try ldd /usr/bin/jwm (if you're using jwm) to see if that's missing anything

Nice musher0! I have a puduan-6.0.0.iso laying around too, don't remember how far it got but it definitely wasn't as successful as the pupjibaro jessie beta. Will have to boot it again sometime and check what 666philb said also. Perhaps there is hope :D

Hello all.

Yeah, Sailor. Cooperation would be appreciated; 2-3 heads would be better than one
on this "lion". I tried it last Fall too and I broke a couple of virtual teeth on it!... :lol:

Thanks for your answers. If you want to try your hand at making it boot all the way
to X and the desktop, here's a temporary download URL:

for the puduan-6.0.0.iso:
http://www112.zippyshare.com/v/JAgLCM69/file.html
(File Life: 30 days after no activity. Thanks to the good people at ZippyShare
for providing their service, BTW.)

for the devx_puduan_6.0.0.sfs file:
http://www105.zippyshare.com/v/4anbg4es/file.html
(Again, file life: 30 days after no activity.)

Ongoing experiment note:

I tried
1) copying all the stuff in the zdrv in the main sfs (and renaming the zdrv of course)
2) adding a proper PuppyPin.

Still zilch.

You can now see there's an attempt to go to X, though. There's "some kind of wiggle"
now, whereas there was no movement at all previously.

Hello again, phil.

Will ldd jwm as soon as I can get the Xorg running.

As to the kernel 4.3 mentioned in that other thread, I'd rather have, by default, a
lower-numbered kernel such as 3.16 or 3.18 if possible, since the kernels of the 4.*
series make this old dual-core laptop I'm on as slow as "molasses in winter".

Hi musher0,

I just tried the ldd thing with your iso also. As you probably found out, jwm is missing libjpeg.so.8 and libfribidi.so.0. I added versions of them to an adrv to test (to be placed in the same folder as puppy.sfs before booting) and now it boots to desktop, but not too much you can do yet besides play with the menu because rox-filer still appears missing (I think). Still, it's a start ;)

rename from pet to sfs, then place it in the same folder as puppy_puduan.sfs for it to load at boot

libevdev might get the mouse pointer working .... also grab that script from the link in my post above (stick it in the Adrive above for now or manually place it in the save) ... the script can be run without X .... as can ldd

Thanks jlst. Your "checkdeps /" helped me easily see why many things the menu (urxvt, xlock, gtkdialog) aren't working yet. :D

edit: 666philb's version (find_missing_libs script) looks quite interesting too.

Hi guys.

Thanks Sailor. Your libs brought me to the desktop with jwm active. :)

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Here is my puduansave file. It contains
1) the small st terminal from suckless.org disguised as rxvt/urxvt through links and
the two libs it needed (tested ok). It's a very simple terminal but it does the job and
this point we don't need the fancy panareters in urxvt. It just needs some proper
mono fonts. In the post below, I'll upload the fonts needed for the st terminal.
2) The ROX-Filer from josejp2424's pupjibaro-Jessie (untested, but since they're
both from debian jessie's build, it should work.
(beware of duplications? It contains Sailor's libs from the adrv.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Finally, are we each working on our own for this? Should we not collaborate?
In particular if we each gather some of the missing libs and share them, we'll all finish faster.

I'm willing to gather the last third of the missing libs and share them with you (make them available to you). What do you say?

Unzip twice to get the 2fs pupsave file. This pupsave is 960 Mg's big when
totally unzipped.

Hello guys.

As announced in my post above, here is the Monaco font for the st terminal.
Unzip in /usr/share/fonts/default/TTF of the puduansave file.

Hello gang!

Here is a 2nd puduansave file:

puduansave-arf2.2fs.zip.zip
http://www90.zippyshare.com/v/cXPwCYsf/file.html

It's approx. 45 Mg double-zipped.

This one adds to the first pupsave above most of the missing libs from 666philb's
list. I simply copied the available ones existing in the pupjibaro-jessie. Everything
seems to test ok.

The remaining ones to be found and incorporated are:
from querying /usr/bin
libaudiofile.so.0 => not found
libcap.so.2 => not found
libldap-2.4.so.2 => not found
libssl.so.1 => not found
libcrypto.so.1 => not found
libglut.so.3 => not found
libusb-1.0.so.0 => not found
libpopt.so.0 => not found
libusb-1.0.so.0 => not found
libicudata.so.52 => not found
libcap.so.2 => not found

from querying /bin
libfdisk.so.1 => not found
libslang.so.2 => not found
libfdisk.so.1 => not found

None are missing for executables in
/sbin and /usr/sbin
If someone has a suitable copy of those it would be much appreciated.
(I'm calling it a night after I write this message.)
~~~~~~~~~~~
It also contains the ROX-Filer from the pupjibaro-jessie with a symlink as "rox" in
/usr/local/bin, which makes it callable from anywhere from the st terminal. It's ugly,
but it works.
(There is a 2nd copy of ROX-Filer in /usr/local which needs to be cleaned.)
~~~~~~~~~~~

My offer for co-operation still stands, but I guess this unexpected find changes the
approach a bit. Any ideas?

As a suggestion, we could perhaps share populating the new pup. I know leafpad
and geany are not registering with whereis. Probably lots of others puppy regular
staple programs too.

Somebody (was it phil?) said something about getting the PPM2 to work in the
present context? That would be great.

Anyways. I need some shut-eye. Good night!

jlst wrote:Any apps depending on this lib should be recompiled (use one that is compiled somewhere):

libicudata.so.52 => not found

that is a huge lib. the important thing are the package names, i'll add some packages to the DISTRO_PKGS_SPECS-devuan-jessie file soon..

i also see ayttm, i don't see that app in the pgks specs.

rxvt can not be replaced, it's a hardcoded system app with specific switches just like rox. however it can be replaced by "defaultterminal" in the puppy pin (rox pinboard) and a few other places maybe (something to be done in woofce soon)...

then the defaultterminal can be any other terminal emulator..
Hi jlst.

Thanks for your heads-up.

Don't worry about the urxvt, I'll reinstate back to what it was. Actually, I may
compile and introduce the latest version of urxvt in puduan. We'll see. For now,
let's just get the basics to work. (internet, puppy config, etc.)

It's just that for the purpose of checking out the ldd's, the urxvt was not working
and I needed something reliable that worked immediately. Since I had a compile of
st ready from my weather script, I copied it and used it to produce the ldd lists.

I'll check the icudata and ayttm. When I say the basics, I also mean getting the
devx to load so some compiling can be done.

I also noticed that some programs in puduan are still of a different color in the rox
listings (meaning: they have no permission yet).

I also know that a lot of the Puppy regular staple programs are not in the Puduan
either. I'm sure this work is NOT finished! :( and :)

To any who are interested:
I just added the URL to get josejp2424's pupjibaro-jessie in the first post.
The iso is still available from jose's mediafire page, I just checked.
